Warhammer 40K: 3 Big Misses From Codex: Death Guard

Goatboy here with a rundown of GW’s three biggest misses from the new 40K 10th Edition Death Guard Codex.
Overall the codex is pretty strong and has a ton of options but it still is missing a few things I would love to have. The army had various options now lost to the mists of time, including some of that old-school “chaos” goodness.
There are three separate units I wish the Death Guard kept. They are some of the basic Chaos Space Marine options which I feel the Death Guard are missing. I don’t think they are super good units, but did offer some options that some of the detachments are missing. The XIVth could also use some more fun little “cheap” options to fill out the army as I expect the faction to get ever more expensive as 10th Edition keeps moving forward.
Bring Back Nurgle Cultists
The first easy thing missing is the good ole cultist. This is a unit that I feel almost all the Chaos Marine based armies should have if they don’t have something equivalent. They are a simple cheap little troop unit that can satisfy some Battleline options, gives detachments sticky, and lets you have a unit that would be pretty cool to build and convert. It is also extremely cheap and covers a need to fill those last 50 or so points an army might have when you finish building it. I know the Death Guard have Poxwalkers but they really aren’t a Cultist unit.
Death Guard Terminator Sorcerer Please
The next thing I feel missing is a default kind of Terminator Sorcerer or Plaguecaster option. There shouldn’t just be Typhus as your psychic Terminator as the army is known to have more. It also lets you create some unique things for your Blightlords to differentiate from the Death Shroud that will be filling the table tops soon. Let this guy just join the Blightlords as it would force players to think of something different for the terminator dreams teams for the table top.
Death Guard Chaos Lord, Come Back!
The last thing is just a Basic Chaos lord like option. Heck I don’t know why this isn’t in the World Eaters codex either, but Death Guard used to have one. The new Lord of Poxes is cool but having a unit that could do some fun CP options or at least some cool close combat nonsense would be cool. What if he just carried this crazy corrupted Chainsword and could do some fun CP discount and explosive combat options. I think the basic Chaos Lord is a great cheap character unit to help diversify your Plague Marine options and just give you something fun to convert up with all your left over Plague Marine bits and pieces of nonsense.
All of these wouldn’t break the army any more than what they already have and let you create some “space” to help fill out those left over points. I also like the idea of giving some more “conversion” options for an army that is pretty well filled with unique looking models and units that don’t really scream for you to hack apart to create something new. I know the army doesn’t need any more Daemon Engine or heavily “Nurgled” units so just a few simple options would be great to have.
All Hail the XIVth Legion!
