Kobold Press is back with a new expansion for Tales of the Valiant and D&D 5E—find new classes, bases, and frogs in the Player’s Guide 2.

Tales of the Valiant is Kobold Press’ own take on high fantasy roleplaying with a d20. ToV is compatible with D&D even while offering its own crunchy take on what you have come to expect from the world’s oldest roleplaying game. And now, with a new expansion in the works, it looks to add even more: new classes, new ways to make your mark in the world, new ways to be a weird little guy – notably, a frog person, which you can see for yourself in Tales of the Valiant: Player’s Guide 2

Incidentally, that’s how you know you’ve made it as an RPG. Can you play a frog person? Congratulations, you’ve got a good RPG. Can you not? You gotta make more expansions.

Tales of the Valiant: Player’s Guide 2 – Three New Classes, a Dozen New Lineages, and So Much More

Tales of the Valiant: Player’s Guide 2 is a massive expansion for Tales of the Valiant and 5E. It has a wealth of new options to toy around with, including two new spellcasting classes, the Witch and the Theurge, as well as the Vanguard, Kobold’s take on the Marshal (and the guy featured on the cover of all the Black Flag material). But it’s not just that you get new classes. Each one comes with three different subclasses and heroic options to play with.

Then you have new subclasses for existing classes, like Barbarians, Rogues, and Wizards (three new ones for each of the base classes), as well as the aforementioned frog people, the Sapopova. It really is a treasure trove of new options. If you want to expand your games of Tales of the Valiant, this book is absolutely indispensable for that.

But you don’t have to take my word for it. You can head on down to the end of this article and find a link to a free preview that will let you not only take a look at the table of contents (so you can see what all awaits you, specifically), you can also dig in to some of the playtesting material. Including a preview of the new Vanguard and some of the new lineages.

“Player’s Guide 2 is the first major rules supplement honed to perfection by Kobold Press. This huge leap forward for the Tales of the Valiant RPG gives its 5E-based system new downtime rules, expanded strongholds, improved ritual casting, and a range of new subclasses, a dozen new lineages, and more than 150 spells and rituals. The Vanguard martial class as well as the Witch and the Theurge casting classes offer new paths to adventure!”

Of course, if you’re more interested in new wrinkles to put in your campaign, you’ll probably want to check out the new base building rules included in the document. And this is all just the basic stuff. By this point in the Kickstarter, they’ve already unlocked some fairly substantial stretch goals, adding new downtime activities and more.

And as Tales of the Valiant: Player’s Guide 2 heads into its final week, there’s still time to get in.

Tales of the Valiant is getting bigger and better!
