Games Workshop Pauses Pre-Orders for ‘Siege of Terra: Era of Ruin’ Due To Scalpers
Did you want to get a copy of the special edition of the new novel Siege of Terra: Era of Ruin anthology? Apparently, so did the scalpers.
Well this is a weird thing that’s happened today. But it’s not exactly bad weird either. If you’re a fan of the Horus Heresy novel series then you might have been waiting to get your pre-orders in for the upcoming Era of Ruin anthology. Well, you weren’t the only one. In fact, it appears that there was a bit of a bot-rush to scoop-up all the copies of the special edition. Fortunately, GW caught it and has taken action.

A Slight Warhammer.com Outage
Also, if you were wondering why you suddenly couldn’t order/browse warhammer.com this is why. Personally, I applaud GW for taking some action to combat scalpers on these products. These aren’t people that are buying at a discount to sell the books cheaper. These are people that are trying to buy up all the books and then resell them at a profit.
Some folks might argue that it’s a legitimate business. While others consider this a pretty scummy practice in general — and not just for things like books. This is why sporting events, concerts, and even stand-up comedy show prices can get ridiculous. It’s people trying to become the middle-man for a market where one doesn’t need to exist. It does nothing but cause problems for fans trying to get to the thing they want without a stupid mark-up.

Now, if only other retailers (or concert venues) would do something similar and shutdown these bots snagging all the tickets up. Abominable intelligence indeed!
If you don’t buy from scalpers then they lose money. Lots and lots of money.
