From tiny campfires to gigantic volcanoes, these hot board games are perfect to play inside in the AC when it’s too darn hot outside.

I would definitely describe the weather near me lately as too darn hot. There have been lots of days where sitting inside with the AC running seems like the best thing to do. And luckily, I have an indoor sort of job, so I can do just that. But if you need more ways to stay indoors during your free time, these fire-themed board games will be perfect to play. Inside. Where it’s cool.

Flamecraft

In Flamecraft, players take on the role of Flamekeepers. They gather items, cast enchantments, and place dragons around the board to enhance and help various shops around town. It’s a cute game with beautiful little touches and a very cozy feel. You’re helping manage your small town, with the help of potions and a few specialized dragons.

Tinderblox

Tinderblox is a fun, easy, and pocket-sized game, so it’s always ready to play when you are. Try to not get burned as you build a 3D campfire… by stacking up tiny wooden blocks. Games are quick—as few as three minutes quick—and setup time is almost non-existent. This feels like a game that wants to go camping with you, but the little blocks and stacking tweezers probably wouldn’t do well outside. Just like many of us like the idea of camping in theory. But once we get out there we remember we’re indoor kids and that’s okay, too.

Fire in the Library

The library is on fire, and it’s spreading. Save as many books as you can, but be careful. Doing too much will cause the fire to spread, limiting how many books you can save. Fire in the Library is a strategy game balancing speed, organization, and your ability to prioritize. How many books can you save from the library?

Lecker Lava

The volcano is erupting! And unlike some other creatures, the little dragons are celebrating since lava is their favorite food. Hungry dragons fly around, fighting for the best lava munching spot and trying to get as much melted rock as they can. Lecker Lava probably won’t be meant for the most serious of board game players. But if you have or know kids who would enjoy a cute, dragon themed game to stay cool with, this is a solid pick.

The Emerald Flame

The Emerald Flame is a narrative tabletop puzzle game told in parts. If you’ve played this sort of game before, you know these can be incredibly interesting and satisfying as you work through the story, piece together the mystery, and watch all of the pieces—literally and figuratively—come together. This game comes with letters, prints, and physical objects in addition to the puzzle pages, so it’s also immersive and full of thoughtful little details.
