Marvel: Crisis Protocol – ‘Warriors of Asgard’ Affiliation Pack Brings Back Some Heavy Hitters

The Warriors of Asgard Affiliation Pack brings four Asgardian characters to Marvel: Crisis Protocol in an easier to collect box.
There are quite a few Asgardians running around these days in Marvel: Crisis Protocol. The main problem has been that new players are having a tough time getting their hands on them. Well, AMG is taking steps to make it easier to collect them. That’s with the repackaging efforts and reprints coming.
It’s going to take a bit for sure. That said, we’ve already seeing a lot of those old kits coming back. Like the Warriors of Asgard Affiliation Pack which is what we’re covering today. What’s nice is that this is also a chance to get these characters updated with new formatting and a rules-check (where needed). So let’s see what’s in this new pack.
Angela
Angela is actually a really heavy hitter on the tabletop. I think she might get skipped over a lot due to her harder-to-find kit. But that’s not going to be the case for much longer. Update-wise this pack mirrors the recent card update. It’s mostly formatting changes from the original release. The icons were added to some abilities (size for example). The only “major” update was to Living Ribbons which had the text re-worded to be more specific.
Now that Angela is going to be in a new affiliation pack I have a feeling this daughter of Odin is going to make a bigger splash on the tabletop. Did I mention she’s got a long move on a 50mm base? Combined with all that movement tech and yeah…she’s scary.
Enchantress
This is another character that got a card update previously. This new version just updates the art and formatting once again. While it’s nothing too crazy, this is another character that’s kind of hard to get. Or rather, she used to be. This box solves that problem. She’s also a potent character for messing with the other team’s plans. Enchantress has a knack for moving enemies out of their wanted position. On top of that she pairs well with Skurge.
The one thing I do find odd is that her builder attack is energy based when she’s really a Mystic threat. But maybe Magic is just a different form of energy? Eh, whatever — for a 4 Threat Level Character I think she’s got potential.
Heimdall, The All-Seeing
Heimdall also got a card update recently. That update did change his All-Seeing Eyes up to Range 4. Other than that, there are various card formatting and art changes, too. While he’s not the flashiest character out there Heimdall is a Threat Level 3. That’s a nice spot to be in an Asgardian list. He brings movement tech to the plate and also re-roll utility. Paired with the right folks he can be a bit of a supporting menace.
Skurge, The Executioner
Virtually untouched rules-wise from his original version. His art did get updated as well as the card formatting. That said, Skurge has always been a very straightforward character. He plays the part of a Threat Level 3 brute well. Plus he’s got Right-Hand Man which allows him to take the hits for his allies. Not every character in your list needs to have some wacky combo. Sometimes you just need someone to go and get hit — and then hit them right back! Plus he’s got synergy with Enchantress, too.
Team Tactic Cards
I think these Team Tactic Cards are self-explanatory. Two of them are used with Skurge which isn’t an accident. Again, think he’s got a bit more value than some folks give him credit for. I’m not saying to build your strategy around him. I’m just pointing out that you might want to give him a look and see if you’ve got room for a Threat Level 3 as a good gap filler somewhere.
Expansion Options
Threat-wise we’re looking at the following for these characters:
- Angela – 5
- Enchantress – 4
- Heimdall – 3
- Skurge – 3
Threat Total: 15
You’re going to find this is a fairly common issue with Asgardians — they fill up those Threat Levels pretty fast. That’s one reason I like having a few cheaper options around. That said, for a full roster of 10, you’ve got a couple of options to fill it out.
The obvious choice is to get the other Asgardian Affiliation Box. The one that has: Mighty Thor, Lady Sif, Thor, Hero of Midguard, and Loki, Prince of Lies.
That would bring your roster up to eight really quickly. Now, here’s where things get tricky. You really only have two slots left but the character packs you need are kind of spotty to get now. There’s the Beta Ray Bill and Ulik box. Also the OG Thor and Valkyrie box. Oh and we definitely can’t forget the Loki and Hela pack either. The last one I can’t even find a link to from AMG or Asmodee — that’s how far out of print that one is.
That said, if you’re trying to stay within the Asgardian faction I’d honestly go with Beta Ray Bill and Ulik (if you can find it). Why? Because of how the Alter Egos work and not being able to take two copies (of say Thor Odinson) in a roster. If you got both Character Packs and then Bill and Ulik you’d have a full ten character roster ready to go.
Alternatively, you could also look at Cabal as another Affiliation to splash into. Skurge and Enchantress are both members. Plus you could keep the semi-Asgardian theme going with Malekith the Accursed (who’s also a leader of the Cabal). Loki, God of Mischief is another member of the Cabal and so is Ulik. That’s really the faction with the most overlap.
The Warriors of Asgard are coming soon. Are you ready for them?
