This is the internet, and if there’s one universal internet truth, it’s that we love cats. So let’s all play some cat tabletop RPGs.

You know how when we’re all playing one of the classic fantasy TTRPGs, there’s always one player who wants to pet and/or adopt all of the magical creatures? Even (especially) the dangerous ones? In my group, it’s me. I’m that player. Well these RPGs take a little of that pressure off because it’s all cats all of the time. And surely we can’t go around petting all of the cute animals if we are the cute animals. Right?!

Monarchies of Mau

If you’ve played Pugmire, you know exactly what this game is. And if you haven’t, Pugmire and Monarchies of Mau are different sections of the same game system. Players exist as cats and dogs in what’s definitely a post-apocalyptic and human-less world. That may sound dark, but it’s really not. Your cat-adventurers will sometimes find old artifacts and bits of tech with little context for what they are.

But mostly, this game is a classic fantasy-adventure TTRPG. Only all of the characters are various breeds of cat and dog. If you’re pretty attached to the classic, biggest-name games, but want to adventure as your favorite pet, this is definitely the right game for that.

Magical Kitties Save the Day!

Every magical kitty has a human. Every human has a problem. And in Magical Kitties Save the Day, you will use your magical kitty powers to solve those problems and save the day. From the concept, to the art, to the potential adventures, this game is simply really cute and nice. Plus, there is a solo-play mode, so you can start solving your human’s problems as soon as you open the box.

Time Tails

Cats are pretty cool. But Time Tails says, “You know what’s even cooler? Time-traveling cats through a neon world inspired by the 80s and 90s.” And I guess some other eras, too. This game is available for pre-order now. So unless you can time travel for real, you can’t own it just yet, but you can be one of the first to receive a copy.

CATS

CATS is a micro TTRPG all about the adventures of domesticated house cats. You know, things like getting extra treats and trying to take over their entire neighborhood. Cat stuff. If you haven’t played any micro RPGs, they are a perfect way to play quick-and-easy RPGs that require little set-up. They are often fun, weird, unique, and a great way to support smaller game designers. Plus, you can take over your entire neighborhood as a cat.

The Secrets of Cats

Cats are magical, cats understand the power of sacrifice and proper names, and cats will stand firm against the darkness. Okay, maybe not my cat, specifically. But for the cats in The Secrets of Cats, this is all true. This game brings you to a sleepy little tourist town where kids are messing around with some dark powers they should be leaving alone. And now it’s up to you, the cats, to protect the neighborhood from everything that goes bump in the night.
