RPG: ‘Rivers of London’ Comes To America With ‘In Liberty’s Shadow’

The game might be called Rivers of London, but it’s going to America with a new sourcebook: In Liberty’s Shadow.

Chaosium brings the occult world of Rivers of London across the pond in a brand new sourcebook, coming July 9th. In Liberty’s Shadow will explore the wider world outlined in Ben Aaronovitch’s novel series. If you haven’t played the RPG or are unfamiliar with the world, Rivers of London is a world where magic is returning. And ancient powers awaken out of myth and legend. Naturally, players are members of a looked-down-upon organization dedicated to trying to desperately maintain peace.

The new sourcebook is set for release July 9th. In it, you’ll find not just a setting guide, but new adventures, pregenerated characters, and more. At the heart of it all, an America where magic is returning from the shadows of society. Full of secret societies who have kept the traditions alive in spite of everything.

And of course, where there’s power to be had, there’s danger unimaginable. Especially with magic. After all, America is a place where cryptids don’t just have names, they have merch. And stories all their own.

All of which you’ll find in the upcoming sourcebook. In Liberty’s Shadow is due out July 9th,so keep an eye out. In the meantime, to learn more, there’s an upcoming AMA which will go even more in depth.

“London isn’t the only place where magic is returning to the world—On the far side of the Atlantic Ocean, old factions are stirring once again to rub shoulders with brash newcomers to the American “twilight subculture,” aka the demi-monde.

Here’s what you’ll find in the book:

  • An exclusive piece of microfiction by Ben Aaronovitch, “Ask, And Ye Shall Receive.”
  • The history of magic in America and details of the various groups operating within the United States.
  • Two new case files to introduce players to the American demi-monde: “Woolly Bully” and “A Regular Picture Palace Drama.”
  • New spells, creatures, and character creation options.
  • Six ready-to-play American investigators, members of the monster-hunting streaming channel, The Cryptid Kickers.
