Chaosium’s latest Call of Cthulhu campaign is available at last. Will you survive The Sutra Of Pale Leaves: Twin Suns Rising?

Call of Cthulhu shifts its focus to one of the most mysterious figures in the Mythos lore: the King in Yellow. Sometimes called Hastur by those who dare, the King in Yellow is an insidious figure who snares you within webs. Although, that may not always be the case. In the new campaign for Call of Cthulhu, The Sutra of Pale Leaves: Twin Suns Rising, we get a look at 1980s Japan where the King in Yellow is seen as someone to help the helpless. To ensnare the corrupt. What strange darkness lurks behind the Yellow Sign?

The Sutra of Pale Leaves: Twin Suns Rising – A New Campaign and Setting For Call Of Cthulhu

In Japan, the King in Yellow walks in the guise of the Prince of Pale Leaves. Under this namesake, he provides succor and help to those who need it. But such help often comes at too great a price. And the King in Yellow has a storied history in the world of Lovecraft. One that goes even beyond Lovecraft, actually.

As you may well know, the King in Yellow, a series of short stories by Robert W. Chambers, was one of the inspirations for Lovecraft’s mythos. You can find a lot of concepts that feel right at home in the world of Cthulhu in these stories. Including forgotten and dreaming alien cities. Grandeur lost throughout the ages. A noble family that may be out of time. And all that feeds back in to The Sutra of Pale Leaves.

And now, the book is available. You can order it in gorgeous leatherette version or hardcover pictured directly above. And when you do, you also get a PDF so you can start reading immediately.

“This Call of Cthulhu supplement takes you to the Japan of the 1980s. It is a time when the generations are at odds, yakuza gangs are thriving, and the traditional world is at war with modernity. Ancient creeds, gods, and spirits vie to keep their toe-hold in this new world of capitalist opportunity—and overworked and overwhelmed humans turn in desperation to spiritual organizations that promise release and new meaning. This is a world that needs the Prince of Pale Leaves—and he answers the call.

The King in Yellow—in his guise as the Prince of Pale Leaves—is different. He is here to help. Those who cry out to him lose their minds and souls, but it will be far worse for the rest of us. This book also includes a comprehensive guide to the Sutra of Pale Leaves itself, covering the insidious effects of the text, the cults associated with the Yellow King, and an array of new Mythos monsters for use in any Call of Cthulhu game.”

Inside you’ll find a series of three linked adventures, as well as new monsters, cults, and the like. They’ll take you across a variety of locales within 1980s Japan, from creeping depression to action manga to internecine gang warfare. It sounds great.

And you can check it out now, as the Sutra of Pale Leaves is available everywhere you find your games!

See you in the 80s!
