Your next game night will be out of this world when these space games have you exploring neighboring galaxies and beyond.

I’ve been in a space mood recently. Between Andor getting me very much back on my Star Wars BS, getting a new xenomorph tattoo, and finally getting around to reading Project Hail Mary, it has been a spacy sort of month. And on that last one, I liked it so much five chapters in that I called my dad to tell him to read it so I had someone to talk to and when he didn’t seem enthusiastic enough, I went out and bought him a copy. So now he has to read it. But not stopping there, I’m going to make my problem into everyone else’s problem and make all of you think about space with me with some games to make your next game night intergalactic (planetary).

Space Base

In Space Base, you command your very own base in space. There, it’s your job to draft new ships into your fleet, patrol your sectors, and expand your influence and profit. It’s one of those games that make you think, “Why would bureaucracy be fun?” But then it is. And also you’re on a space ship. It’s easy to learn, easy to teach, and good for 2-5 players, ages 10 and up.

Star Trek: Captain’s Chair

In this game, you’re the captain! Of your own Starfleet ship! You’ll explore the galaxy, command your crew, form alliances, and maybe find yourself in space battle with an opponent. This is a strategy deck-building game for one to two players. Meaning that it has a solo mode.

Alien Frontiers

We love resource management games, so why not just put one of those on another planet? Alien Frontiers is a strategy board game of planetary development where you’ll need to build domed colonies in strategic locations and carve out territory on a brand new world. And maybe some alien tech will even prove to be helpful.

Eclipse

In Eclipse, you are in control of a vast interstellar civilization. You will explore new star systems, research and invent new tech, and build spaceships…. To wage war with. To to six players will take on the role of human explorers or an alien species to explore, expand, and exploit their way through the stars.

Space Escape

We’ve had a lot of competitive and thematically dark games so far. But Space Escape is a little different in that it’s cooperative, family-friendly, and a little more silly. So if you’re looking for something a bit lighter, move to the Mole Rat space station, where the snakes have infiltrated! Players must work together to gather their equipment and get to the escape pods before time runs out.
