Video Game Inspired Board Games To Play While Your Switch 2 Is Charging

These video game-inspired board games will be perfect to break out when you have over the friends with two left thumbs.
Have you picked up a Switch 2 yet? Will you? Personally, I may at some point in the future. But for right now I’m celebrating the Switch 2’s release by getting a cute new skin for my Steam Deck. That said, the system looks fun, I almost never don’t enjoy playing Nintendo’s party games with friends. But sometimes those handheld systems need to charge or you have people over who are very bad with their thumbs. For those times, these video game inspired board games may come pretty close.
Dungeon Royale

Mimicking the style of classic adventure games, Dungeon Royale is a game of epic quests. Players pick from the 8-bit heroes and traverse a boxy little dungeon full of traps and terrors. Complete the quests, defeat the monsters, and whatever you don’t run out of hearts or it’s game over.
Tetris

We all know Tetris. The famous block-stacking game and its theme song are almost synonymous with repetitive puzzle gaming. And personally, I can sit in front of a screen stacking those blocks for hours. Many a childhood family road trip were saved by Tetris and my atomic purple Gameboy. And you can also play it in board game form! The infamous blocks slide down clear matrix towers. Keep an eye on what’s coming next, your combos, and be the best tabletop Tetris player in town.
Dead by Daylight

Based on the horror-survival game, Dead by Daylight promises to give players the same feeling of playing the video game. You know, stressed out. But in a fun way. This is a cooperative game of hide-and-seek between survivors and killers. Plot your moves, coordinate with your friends, repair the generators, and do your best to escape. Or, if you’re playing as the Killer, stop them from doing all of that by anticipating their moves and hunting them down.
Stardew Valley

On the opposite end of the stressful-game-spectrum is Stardew Valley. Known for being peaceful, cute, and cozy, this is a cooperative game of farming, fishing, and friends. Restore the community center, plant crops, and take care of animals. If you’re feeling really adventurous, you can explore the mine. Maybe you’ll even find love.
Horizon Zero Dawn

The world of Horizon Zero Dawn is one of the most beautiful and unique game settings, and you can also explore it in this mixture of board and deck-building game. Players take on the roles of various hunters, each with their own play style, strengths, and weaknesses. Everyone will need to work together to complete their mission, but the journey is difficult and dangerous. This game is meant to be immersive and work equally well as a full campaign or a single session game.
