Warhammer 40K: 3 Chaos Army Options For Taking Out Knights

Goatboy here with some 40K advice on how Chaos players can take out the newest menace on the tabletop – big knights.
If you are living under a rock the new big knight updates has hit the scene and will do a number on the current meta. They got cheaper, got more wounds, and some powerful new rules. They also kept their old rules for the Imperial Knights – which can cause a lot of issues for some armies. Today I want to give three different answers for the assault based armies out there for the Chaos faction.
Chaos Daemons – Bloodthirster Coming in HOT!
Army – Index Chaos Daemons
Detachment – Daemonic Incursion
Datasheets – Bloodthirsters with their Giant Axe
Did you remember that Daemonic Incursion utilizes the Shadows of Chaos to create areas where giant Chaos Daemons can deploy via deep strike within 6″? Did you also know that big ole Knights can’t Overwatch? A giant Bloodthirster coming in from the warp, hitting a 6″ charge, and throwing out 7 attacks that hit on 2’s, wound on 3’s, and most ignore their armor with AP – 4? They throw out Damage D6+2 and then if they haven’t killed the Giant they also get to roll 8d6 with each 4+ causing a Mortal wound? That is pretty dang gnarly and one of the way’s Chaos Daemons might be a good hunter for the big knight meta as well as just utilizing Be’lakor and friends to wreck the table top.
CSMs – The Doctor Is a Man Possessed!
Army – Chaos Space Marines
Detachment – Creations of Bile
Datasheets – Possessed and using their once per game get Devastating Wounds
Stratagem – Specimens for the Spider
We all know how Creations of Bile is one of the better bully lists right now in Chaos Space Marines. You mix efficient damage output, powerful units, and just the wonderful aggressive interaction of Chaos Space Marines into the perfect detachment. The Possessed are a very fast unit that utilize a once per game ability to gain Devastating wounds when the Dark Pact their way to victory. Depending on what you roll for your Drug upgrades you could go hunting for more hits and then use the Specimens for the Spider wound reroll due to all the big Knights being characters. You are rolling for all those 6’s and seeing how many Feel No Pains or just straight damage you pump into one of the big bad boys.
World Eaters – Off With His Head!
Army – World Eaters
Detachment – Berserker Warband
Datasheets – Master of Execution w/Berserkers or
Blessings – Sustained/Lethal combo
Enhancement – Berserker Glaive
The Master of Executions is an interesting piece of Tech as he can come out swinging into the enemy. He gets the ability to Reroll his wounds versus Characters so with the Glaive he comes in with 7 attacks that are hitting at strength 9, AP -2, Flat 3 Damage, and having Devastating wounds. This could do a lot of damage to a Knight and then his crazy buddies can land afterwards throwing out a pile of attacks with Sustained/Lethal doing a number on a Giant Knight. Throw in the extra Stratagem to gain an extra AP 1 on their attacks and watch as the Knight is rolling 6+’s versus the Master and 5+ versus the pile of damage the World Eaters Zerkers are throwing out.
What other stuff is there for Assault armies to think about? The Fights first Chaos Knight monster is going to be a pain as well as just the cheap Fights on Death for the Imperial Knights. Are we just going to hope the knight player isn’t going to play as aggressive as they should? Is it just going to be a Hot Big Boi summer?
For the Warmaster!
