It’s time to go on a crusade with the Chaos Knights. They have potent new rules to help you spread the word of chaos.

The Chaos Knights are on the move! There’s a new codex coming and with that a new batch of Crusade rules. I’ve wondered how exactly you’d go on a crusade with Knights in general. This isn’t the middle ages after all! But these new rules see the Chaos Knights juggling three different factions on their quest for power.

“The Idolators – as fallen sacristans are known – are responsible for keeping the Knights themselves in working order, and these are the first port of call for pilots hoping to attach some profane technology to their steed. War Dog packs are a valuable asset to be used and abused by their superiors, thrown into enemy guns or else sent to perform menial battlefield objectives while the true nobles earn their infamy. And the Dark Gods themselves, whose favour can grant powerful boons or malign curses in equal measure, if only a noble has the will to bargain.”

Chaos Knights On Crusade

The balancing act of those three Power Bases is key to how the Chaos Knights go on crusade. You influence with them will wane over time. The only way to maintain the balance is to win games and complete Agendas. This will allow the Chaos Knight player to maintain control over their Power Base.

So how does this translate to in-game rewards? Each Power Base has their own benefits in the form of Battle Traits you can use. For example the Idolators have access to upgrades for your Knights. We’re talking about hardware here — legs, arms, torso, and head! Each location also has three regular upgrades to choose from, too. So you’ve got loads of options.

The War Dogs have their own suite of options. These include ad-hoc formations you can bring along that can benefit from shared abilities. The number of War Dogs you can bring in one of these packs is dependent on how friendly you relationship is with them.

“When one member has acquired a Hunt Tactic, its special secondary effect is shared with the whole pack once they become Ascended – which requires one of them to have killed something in that game.”

Finally, we have a glance at what the Dark Gods can provide. This is a Pact of Damnation. As the name suggests there is a downside: you are stuck with a random Battle Scar on Crusade until you break the Pact. However, the boons you get for making the pact might be too good to pass up.

The strength of the boon also relates to what level of trust you’ve built up with the Dark Gods. Wary or Cautious levels only grant minor boons. But at the higher levels you can get Major boons that can be quite potent!

More Crusade Rules

Naturally, there’s even more crusade rules to go along with these. There’s Crusade specific Relics and also three new Crusade Badges to earn, too. So if Crusade is your cup of tea then you’ll be able to drink deep when the Chaos Knight Codex comes out. Pre-orders are this weekend.
