The Big Boi Knights on both sides of the 40K battlefield are here to wreck things, with many armies fielding 3 or more!   What are we going to do about it?

Goatboy here and thru the stinky haze of Death Guard Nonsense, the psychic might of the Thousand Sons, and the overall brutality of upcoming Marine Variant builds we 40k players have a whole new thing to worry about.  The Big Boi knights on both sides of the battlefield are here! If you thought dealing with a ton of baby doggie knights or just a few bigs was an issue we now are faced with seeing a handful of big bois in most armies.  Here’s what you nedd to do to get ready to take them down.

The shift to bigger knights and an overall downturn of some assault variants means that armies are going to have to figure out what to do when facing them 1-2 times in any given event.  The return of the fat to the metagame is a big shake up and while some of these damage options are good versus other meta giants we still need to looking at what we have available to deal with them.  This usually means a return of high damage but highly variable weapons that can hit hard, chew through wounds, and hopefully get a Knight down fast.

The Las-cannon is BACK BABY!

The change in Knight toughness does activate some weapons that while decent before are now looking a lot better.  These would be things that fall into the Lascannon variety which were sitting at Strength 12 and now look pretty spicy on the tabletop.  In fact it is one of the reasons my World Eaters army has shifted to a counter punch shooting option instead of the old ruthless aggression builds we saw before.

Will this make you have to look for Lascannon Havocs?  Will this bring Devastators out into the light or Centurion Devastators with Lascannons again?  Are those Predator Destructors looking pretty sweet in the swirling smoke of the battlefield?  I think we can expect to see Ballistus Dreadnoughts in every Marine army and any other gun that has a high chance to spike damage.

What’a Knight Big Boi To Do?

Which then leads me to wondering what will the Knights do about this?  They can’t just play the sit and shoot game as their weapons – while good into a lot of things – might not nearly be as damaging as they need to be to chew through super lasers that might have some “protection”.  I would think the Knight armies are going to go aggressive as all get out and get as close as they can to just push the narrative.  Their agenda should be wreck face to push the primary in the face of what will be a dwindling force.

It is going to be a very mean middle table I think when we think of the Tournament scene.  These giant bullies will just live there and chewing up poor armies without the tools to get rid of a Big Boi or two.  I also can see how team events are going to be set up with a good shot at both a Chaos Knight and Imperial Knight army designed to prey on those armies skewed to a point where one of these can just wreck them.

Are you excited about the upcoming meta?  Do you think Imperial Knights will wreck things and bring down Chaos Knights with them if they get a points nerf?  Are Chaos Knights enough to get the job done in the meta and still be fun to play against?
