It might have started with a simple wrestling feud that spilled over onto the internet… but it ended with bulging, throbbing muscles.

Dungeons and Dragons is everywhere these days, on your TV screen, your mobile device, your computer… even, as we’ll learn today, in the world of professional wrestling. Yup, that’s right, D&D is going to the mat, and it’s not just so that Umber Hulkamania can run wild all over you. Newly minted wrestling federation AEW (All-Elite Wrestling) will launch in two weeks on TNT and feature a match between Maxwell Jacob Friedman aka MJF, one of the rising stars of the wrestling ring, and Brandon Cutler, a D&D fan who has cosplayed as Grog, wears d20s, and has a finisher called the TPK.

Naturally, as these two slabs of beef prepare to slap into each other like a couple of trays of cold cuts tumbling in a cooler over a waterfall, the heat is on. And MJF wanted everyone to know he doesn’t play D&D.

This is clearly a killer heel move, because if there’s one thing people on the internet love, it’s D&D. And everyone started weighing in… from Matt Mercer, who continues to be one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet:

All the way to D&D superfan Joe Manganiello, who commited brutal murder in front of hundreds of thousands of people.

We’re not sure if the police have come to collect the body yet, so you can view the whole thread unfold at the tweet above. Suffice it to say though, AEW’s new match is going to have more than a few eyes on it, looking to see if a scrawny D&D nerd like Brandon Cutler.

Can take out his opponent. It all goes down in a couple of weeks, so check your local listings, as they say, and keep an eye on the mat.

Happy Adventuring!
