Next week, the Thousand Sons roll out heretical sorceries beyond compare, and the Wood Elves of the Old World deploy their battalions.

Next week heralds a whole new era of foul sorceries, as the Thousand Sons are unleashed! Magnus the Red’s special boys are ready to pore through forbidden tomes to unearth hidden depths of Chaos. And joining them are a host of new Wood Elves (and a few High Elves, because they turn up everywhere), ready to remind the Old World why the woods are dark and dangerous.

The Thousand Sons Unleashed

Kicking off the pre-order releases is a brand new codex. This new book contains lore, datasheets, gear, and of course special rules for the Thousand Sons. You’ll find rules for five Detachments providing you a choice of playstyles including hordes of Tzaangor, legions of implacable Rubricae, and mixed hosts of mortals and daemons.

Available in normal and special editions, this time is a must for any collector of forbidden arcane lore.

All the usual codex-y goodness can be yours as part of next week’s preorders. But what good are rules if you have no toys to test them with? Don’t worry, a new battleforce box is in town, ready to mess around (with magic).

The Warpflame Thrallband Battleforce is a great way to start your Thousand Sons off. You’ll find a mix of magic and machinery within, taking the form of three Exalted Sorcerers, five Scarab Occult Terminators, 10 Rubric Marines, and four brand new Sekhetar Robots.

Or if you’d like a little more character, check out the new Combat Patrol, also up for preorder next week. Featuring your boy, Zadophon the Soul Eater, who is a beefy looking Daemon Prince, accompanied by a Tzaangor Shaman, three Tzaangor Enlightened, and 10 Rubric Marines. More than enough to kick off some dark heresies in the distant future.

Wood Elves of the Old World

Of course if you prefer your things arcane in the form of a journal, you might want the Arcane Journal which is out alongside them, but for The Old World. This book is ready to unleash the power of a fully armed and operational Wood Elves army, including new rules for Orion, the King in the Woods, and Araloth, the Lord of Talsyn. Each of these special characters gets their own Army of Infamy for each: Orion’s Wild Hunt and the Host of Talsyn, respectively.

Jump start your Wood Elves with the battalion box, which features a whopping 62 miniatures, including: 32 Asrai bow-wielding Glade Guard, Wildwood Rangers or Eternal Guard and either a unit of 10 Wild Riders, or 10 Sisters of the Thorn, or flexible units of five each with a full command. The choice is yours to make.

As leadership options go, Orion, King on the Woods and leader of the Wild Hunt is a potent, swift option.

You might also try Aralith, Lord of Talsyn, who fights to defend the most sacred Grove of Eternity.

Or, grab some of the High Elves that have cropped up on this week’s agenda, with the High Elf noble on dragon.

Or grab the High Elf Loremaster for the perfect blend of melee and magic. Which screams “I’m an Elf and also better than you” like precious little else.

Snag a box of Silver Helms for a swift, but surprisingly deadly cavalry charge of elven nobles.

Or what is sure to be the crowd favorite, Arcane Frogs. For when you’ve just turned your enemy into a frog and you need to add insult to injury.

All hail the legally distinct hypnotoad.

All this, next week!
