The Idoneth Deepkin and surfacing in the Realm of Life. Here are their new Scourge of Ghyran rule updates.

That’s not normal fog rolling in. That’s the Ethersea rising in the lands of Ghyran. If you’re not a member of the Idoneth Deepkin you should probably be on your guard. Today we’re getting a look at their two new battle formations, three new heroic traits, and two alternate warscrolls for the Scourge of Ghyran!

“What horrors lurk beneath the waves? It is perhaps best that human minds do not dwell on such things, for they are the stuff of nightmares. Perhaps move away from the coast while you’re at it. “

Scourge of Ghyran Idoneth Deepkin Battle Formation

There are two new battle formations to try out. First up is Deep-sea Stalkers. This one provides the Idoneth Deepkin with the Outflank the Enemy ability. This essentially makes your units harder to hit while they are wholly within 9″ of a battle field edge. Perfect for getting around the enemy flanks!

The other battle formation is Ethersea Predators. It allows you to return a destroyed Akhelian Allopex unit back to the tabletop after. You have to have destroyed an enemy unit first, but that’s a small obstacle to overcome to bring back an Allopex!

Scourge of Ghyran Idoneth Deepkin Heroic Traits

“As devious as they are, the Idoneth are heroic in their own way. Well, in three ways. Some leaders are inspirational and charismatic, a true Lord of Storm and Sea, inspiring badly wounded soldiers to stay in the fight. Other leaders can bring forth an Endless Sea-storm of great conjurations to aid their warriors. A Merciless Raider can sense wounded prey from across the battlefield and will simply ignore any petty foes that get in their way.”

You can see the three heroic traits above. Of the three I kind of like the Endless Seas-Storm option. It’s a simple way to boost a wizard or to turn one of your heroes into one for a round. Plus, you’ll get to add 2 to the next casting roll or banishment roll for that wizard. Sometimes you really need to cast a spell or banish one of the enemies and that’s an easy way to help that process happen.

Scourge of Ghyran Idoneth Deepkin Warscrolls

The two warscrolls in this update are pretty handy. They focus on the Thralls of the Deepkin. The Akhelian Thrallmaster is there to really boost the Namarti units defensively. The Way of the Vortex reduces enemy rend by 1 for friendly Namarti units in range.

Additionally, the Raider Captain ability helps to move along the Thrall units to where you need them. I don’t see any real downsides to a “Free” move in the Deployment phase for this Thrallmaster and up to 3 other Namarti Thrall units.

And speaking of Namarti Thralls, they are the other alternate warscroll. The major change to them is the new Hit-and-Run Tactics ability.

Essentially, this one allows them to move through enemy units after they attack on a roll of a 3+. It’s not a guaranteed ability, but when it does go off, it can provide some welcomed additional movement for a reposition.

As always, these new warscrolls are legal for Matched Play. Just remember, specifically in the Namarti Thrall’s case, if you use the alternate warscroll in your army that applies to ALL Namarti Thrall units. You cannot mix and match between the two versions for your units.

Are these new Idoneth Deepkin rules a breath of fresh air or are these fish about to turn rotten?
