Dragonbane is a modern reimagining (and translation) Drakar och Demoner, Scandinavia’s first and biggest tabletop RPG. The original, 1st Edition of Dragonbane was published in 1982—but the new version straddles a fine line between modern RPGs and those that cling to more traditional, OSR-type roots. It’s Free League’s RPG of fantasy adventures that can go in almost any direction. It’s also very easy to pick up and play—and you might want to pick it up and play it, given that the whole game is getting two big expansions thanks to a wildly successful Double Feature Kickstarter for Dragonbane.

The Kickstarter is already wildly successful. It shot past its initial funding goal and has raised well over half a million dollars. In fact, as we head into the final 48 hours, it has unlocked all but the last two stretch goals. And with good reason. Dragonbane is full of interesting ideas that invite you to explore the far corners of the system and the setting. The two books that are releasing as part of the Kickstarter do exactly that.
So not only do you get the designer’s idea of what “expanding the game” might feel like, you have a bunch of stuff ready to go. In this case, you get two books: one dedicated to Arkand, City of Flame, a whole setting booklet with all the stuff you’d hope for. And then you also get the Book of Magic. This is a more player-focused splatbook that brings you all things magical under one easy roof.
