“Next Issue: Essential Reading for all generals of the Mortal Realms!”

Hmm, let me think…

Hmm, still thinking…

Oh right…

The General’s Handbook!

~Get your wallets ready folks.  This summer is already shaping up to be very different than 2015’s Summer of Sigmar!

  • Ross Allan

Teaser can’t be the General’s Handbook. That’s out this weekend, and went for pre-order on Saturday.
But more importantly – much as I’m not one to give a fig about GW’s prices, I really can’t see them shifting many of that Contemptor chassis.

    • Bethayne

It isn’t out this weekend, though it did go up for preorder last weekend. Look at its release date!

      • Ross Allan

I’ll be in the dunce’s corner, quietly celebrating that it’s just the one book I need this pay month….

        • Admiral Raptor

if it makes you feel any better I went out to get it yesterday because I thought it had come out on the 2nd for some reason. The only thing I accomplished was confusing the store clerk at my LGS :s

  • James Ellams

Those contemptors are way over priced. Crazy. They’re monopose!!!

    • Ross Allan

I’m thinking the same – but then without actual WD pics, I’m still of the open mind it could be a more ‘fullerer’ kit than the monopose one.

      • rtheom

It was obvious the termies and tac squad were going to go straight to box as-is, but I’ll be honestly surprised if they do release the exact same dreadnaught kit as a single model.

    • Ty Hayden

Don’t forget the Tac Squad costs 25% more than a standard Tac Squad… Really everything costs $10 to $15 more than its standard with the exception of the Heroes; those are priced standard for a PA and TA character… which is still pretty high.

I was really looking forward to getting a Contemptor, but I am not sure I am willing to drop $60 on it… especially if it is mono-pose with few/no options

      • orionburn

Is it seriously $50 for two “heroes”? I picked up a couple Kurtha models to use as regular chaplains (one as a standard chap and one to hack & convert to put on a bike). There’s a seller on eBay that sells them for $1.75 each plus shipping. I swear GW’s costing department must have a firewall at work keeping them from looking at eBay. Nobody in their right mind would pay those prices when you get get the parted out HH box sets on eBay for a fraction of the cost.

        • nurglitch

The guy on ebay might be kicking himself. Or maybe he’s revising his pricing.

      • nurglitch

US$50 is the price of a regular Tactical Squad.

        • Ty Hayden
        • ZeeLobby

          Definitely $40.

          • nurglitch

You’re right, I was looking at the Canadian prices.

          • Ty Hayden

Oh Canada and their Monopoly Money.

          • ZeeLobby

Haha. It’s all good. I do that sometimes too, and have a major wallet heart attack, when it should only be a minor. That said, I think GW could have really made them appealing by making the cost in line with the existing SM line.

I’m not sure what they’re using to justify the price bump, besides counting on us to just spend whatever they decide we should. I mean I guess maybe they didn’t get the return on BaC they were expecting? I know they said their holiday sales were lower than they expected.

          • Ty Hayden

I think there might be some kind of dartboard and the adjust the prices according to a dart throw, or maybe worst of 3.

          • ZeeLobby

probably best of 3, they just don’t play darts regularly in office. Just like they don’t playtest 40K or AoS.

          • DeadlyYellow

Which, humorously, is cheaper than US prices after conversion. UK prices too, but not by as much.

          • nurglitch

They’re not really cheaper once you add in HST/GST&PST.

          • DeadlyYellow

You are correct. Combined cost with their highest tax rate against the US’s highest shows the Canadian purchase to be about a nickel or so more.

I might be wrong, as I am unfamiliar with Canadian tax law. Though I wonder if they’re as indecisive about sales tax from online transactions as the US.

    • vlad78

And what do you think about those 2 characters for 30 pounds?

      • Ross Allan

Usually £18 for a power armoured dude on their own, so not a dead loss. And, they’re not that far off FW prices – so about ‘even’ in my book. Other opinions available and no more or less valid 🙂

    • Matt Ward

I guess you dont convert much, i easily made mine into a running pose and with 2 fists, i dont see why people have a problem with it.

      • James Ellams

I can convert just fine thanks. But I don’t see why I should pay £35 for a model that I then need to carve to nits to make it look dynamic.

        • Matt Ward

          still cheaper then FW

      • euansmith

I guess it is because, for that money, people would like one with some built in articulation and maybe some weapon options.

      • Ross Allan

For me, it’s more the ‘but why wouldn’t they make a kit that’s compatible with the FW dakka, and not that much cheaper than the FW resin ones?’ Just doesn’t add up to my mind.

    • nurglitch

So are the current set of Castra Ferrum Dreadnoughts, the Dreadnought, Ironclad Dreadnought, and Venerable Dreadnought.

      • Matt Ward

all the dreadnought people are just to lazy to convert easily convertable models

        • Ty Hayden

Convertability has nothing to do with it. What people are annoyed about, is the price for a mono-pose. Laziness [for many] doesn’t factor into it.

  • Luca Battisti

And if you live in EU and order directly from UK you get a 10% discount.

    • Ross Allan

      Ouch. Right in the economy!

      • Koen Cambré

I think I’m going to try the brexit diet soon.

Nothing makes you lose pounds overnight like a brexit does!

        • Ross Allan

          Arrrgh! MY DEMOCRACY!!!!

          (actually voted Remain, here)

          • euansmith

Democracy means sometimes letting the idiots win.

          • JP

We’ll know where ALL our Murican idiots live after our next presidential election. You know, for future reference. Yeah, that’s all it’s for. Nothing else going on… nothing… suspicious.

  • Thatroubleshootah

Prices. The flavour of crack gw is smoking must be delish.

  • miteyheroes

The Battle At Calth is *really* good value, then…

  • MightyOrang

at $60, that snap together dreadnought is vastly overpriced.

Unlike the tactical squad’s or terminator squads, it’s really not worth what they’re charging when compared to what you could get from Forge world or other 40K equivalents

Frankly they should pay us to take it off of their hands

Here’s hoping that the kit turns out to be something of substance.

    • ZeeLobby

Heck. Releasing those in plastic should have been a significant decrease in price from FW… they’re honestly all too expensive.

    • Ghaniman

Overpriced is an understatement. The model is so ugly it’s stuck in a perpetual, on its tippy toes, ‘Oh my god’ state. It’s got the arms out wide and everything.

      • ZeeLobby

Lol. I still would have considered it though. If given a sane price.

      • euansmith

The paint job on it is all kinds of technically awesome; but the model still looks like some pigeon toed lummox called, “Lennie”.

    • Mr_Pickles

is this GW hinting that we should be going to Forgeworld for HH stuff?

    • Matt Ward

I guess you dont convert much, i easily made mine into a running pose and with 2 fists, i dont see why people have a problem with it.

      • ZeeLobby

That’s not the point. The point is that you’re really not getting any bargain for what should be cheaper monopose plastic. Might as well just buy from FW instead, and have a much better model.

      • MightyOrang

I convert stuff all the time. My point is that for the full price of an established Dred kit I should get the full contents.

Compare the simplicity of the Calth Dred to $50 for an Ork Deff Dred. It’s night and day.

Whereas for $35 or so the Calth Contemptor is quite reasonable.

  • ZeeLobby

Woof. $50 for a single character model. And I thought the $40 broodlord was ridiculous.

    • Ghaniman

Its for both btw. But still…

      • ZeeLobby

Oh. Lol. That makes it a little easier to stomach. I mean just barely. I don’t really consider either model to be all that amazing aesthetically.

        • DJ860

I’d be interested as to why anyone would want them both too.

          • ZeeLobby

It is odd that they didn’t release them as single models, though I’d fully expect $35 at a minimum if they did. I’ve never looked at the sprues, but it’s probably because they share one.

  • Benoit Tremblay

sooooo buying the Betrayal at Calth box content seperately is about 325$. Right.

  • robertbeason

Dang, those conversion rates are rough. £35 should be $45-$50 tops.

    • Oggthrok

Yeah, and the £30 tactical marines only rate out to $40 US right now, which is a price I would pay. At these rates… I guess I will be content not to involve myself with The Horus Heresy. 🙂

  • Lee Williams

Space Marines remolded….. where are the CSM molds they could have done at the same time!?!?!

    • Ty Hayden

Traitors didn’t get spiky until their time in the Eye of Terror, so technically, they did mold them at the same time. One of the many effort saving decisions…

      • nurglitch

The FW Sons of Horus models have spikey armour. Then there’s the MkV studded armour.

        • Ty Hayden

True, but I think the BaC box is supposed to be pretty early, so there wasn’t a huge distinction yet between loyalist and traitors.

  • Ty Hayden

After looking at the Google Currency conversions, the USD costs should be more as follows:
    MK IV $38
    Cataphractii $52
    Contemptor $46
    Characters $38

I feel like these prices were determined when the Pound was a little stronger.

  • euansmith

I didn’t realise Privateer Press were releasing a new Warcaster. It looks like something new for Cygnar.

    • Red_Five_Standing_By

      Epic Darius!

    • DeadlyYellow

And to think I wanted to make a joke about my contemptor dreadnought looking suspiciously similiar to a Cygnar ‘jack.

  • captkaruthors

JFC. For those prices…just buy Calth. $50 for two heroes? Dumb.

  • James Eggers

Having a copy of the General’s Handbook (running my FLGS’s Summer Campaign), I am impressed with how much information is in there. A lot of focus has been on the points for match play; however, guidelines for multiple styles of campaign and multiplayer games also provides a lot of interesting information. And the price is 1/3 of what I anticipated too. Overall, very impressed with the book’s contents.

  • WellSpokenMan

    Holy US markup Batman!

  • Edouard Decaen

I don’t understand GW’s strategy. Betrayal at Calth cost 125€. Bought individually 30 MKIV Space Marines, 5 Cataphractii, the Dreadnought and two heros cost double for the models only but you still have the game materials. It doesn’t make any sense.

    • Ty Hayden

No one understands GW’s strategy, not even GW.

      • DeadlyYellow

Re release older game kits as new more expensive minis.

Release older expensive minis as new cheaper game kits.

Seems about the gist of it.

    • JP

Betrayal at Calth was the first hit. Now they’re shafting us for more puffs on the bong. Standard drug dealer schtick.

  • WindSplash

I guess it’s time to get a betrayal of calth asap.
Purchasing 3 maximus marines its more expensive than the calth box itself.

    • Thatroubleshootah

I just bought 2 more off ebay to match the one that’s Sitting on my backlog bench

  • Benderisgreat

Buy the Calth mins separately for more than you’d pay for the whole thing? Oh GW, you limey scamps!
