Age of Sigmar: Malign Portents – The Mystery Thickens

There’s three videos up for Age of Sigmar’s new expansion – but what do they mean?

Malign Portents just keeps getting creepier by the day…

“The Icon”

“The Ship”

“The Field”

I’ll leave the speculating to you of exactly what is coming in the supplement – besides these two:

~Whatever is coming – it arrives Januarh 4th…

  • AEZ

Having seen the clips it’s clear: more stormcasts are coming.

    • Koen Cambré

      About time!

  • Ghost pirate army?

    • Arykaas

      all of my yes.

I’d start AOS for that, I want some undead that are not just “buck standard necromancy-ed zombies and skellies”.
Flesh eater courts were an interesting twist on the classical ghouls, but not really my thing

Still pissed out about the squatting of the Tomb Kings … Can’t wait for Warhammer 2 Total War getting them 😀

Also think of all opportunities of conversion with the Karadrons …. yummy !

      • charlesthoss

May I interest you in Cryx Ghost and Revenant Pirates i. Warmachine?

      • dave long island

The FEC are indeed a nest take on the ghoul motiff, and the FEC book is at timed inspired, but their models exhibit such poor posture, to put it mildly. They are in desperate need if the ‘Alexander method’ of proper posture…. lol

    • dark-tadpole

Undead pirates would be awesome. Floating ghost ships, skellie pirates, zombies of drowned men, giant ghouls wielding anchors as weapons, undead sea creatures like giant undead crabs. Imagine all the barnacles stuck on everything and huge pirate hats and cutlasses.
That would be a tempting army.

      • Headed by skeletal pirate lords -some possessing a tentacle or snapping crustacean claw with cutlass at their normal bony hand; The Phantom Fleets of Nagash take to plunder and raid the living not only of their valuables but also their very souls!

    • EnTyme

Don’t get your hopes up on that. To quote the GW Facebook page, “perhaps the portents should not be read so literally”. This is symbolism.

    • dave long island

Ya, definitely ghostly pirate tards. I suppose GW will have to come out with bases with rotting timber now, for piers and decks.

  • Luca Lacchini

Viking themed Chaos (undivided) warriors, Cthulhu tainted Aelves, ghost ships disgorging undead marine troopers.
Sea drakes and beasties as needed.

    Yeah, it’s a wishlist.

    • AEZ

Not mine.. I just want 1-2 new sylvaneth models :D.. well if the new elves can ally with wood elves and looks somewhat nice next to them I’ll be happy too.

      • disqus_HUXMdKxsPG

        Undivided= return of malal?

  • Marco

Long live Warhammer Fantasy and the Old World! Long live Mordheim!

    • Kritarion

At least the Purple and Brown Avatar guy is somewhat creative in his anti GW stuff. Grow up.

    • dark-tadpole

The king is dead, long live the king.

    • Vicent Martín Bonet

Mediocre. Sad thing is you just go and dump this without a care for more conversation.

  • dave long island

Those two make a lovely couple.

  • euansmith

Would that ghost’s sword fit in to its scabbard?

  • Mathew G. Smith

Full book for the Wraith Fleet?

  • orionburn III

I’m not up to speed on the AoS world. Is this just an expansion of shaping up for a whole new army/faction?

    • We don’t actually know yet! Personally I think is a campaign, not a supplement: the next plot development in the AoS story.

      • orionburn III

I’m trying hard to get back to building/painting my Seraphon but have such a 40k backlog and commission work that I’m doing. May have to take a break and get back at it.

      • Xodis

Thats my bet as well. The Realmgate wars are over, and Death was absent for the most part. Hopefully Death will be the focus this campaign and start shipping away at all the Stormcast victories (I say this as a Stormcast player) and driving them back and proving they are not AS wonderful as the first series depicted.
They could even make Destruction the primary antagonist so they can build 2 factions that are slacking.

  • euansmith

I like the rendering on the video. Rather cool.

  • Chet Atkinson

Are we thinking £25 for a mono-pose chaos lass?

    • The Primaris Dark Angel mono-pose Lieutenant is only £15… so you never know.

    • dark-tadpole

      I’d be guessing/hoping £15-£18 rather than £25.

  • EnTyme

It should be mentioned that GW’s Facebook page has repeatedly warned against reading the portents literally. So here’s a more symbolic interpretation: The field represents Shyish, the realm of the dead (in Greek mythology, Elysium was a great field). The ship is the passage to and from the land of the dead (Charon ferrying people across the river Styx). The icon represents the rot beneath the shiny veneer of Sigmar’s realm (Nagash still sees him as a traitor).

  • Christie Bryden

hopefully a full death faction release.
