As a prelude to introducing more Warhammer Fantasy Battle content on Bell of Lost Souls, here’s some information on the upcoming Warriors of Chaos releases. The Warriors of Chaos Spearhead has now been available on the Advance Order page of the Games Workshop US online store for several days. The picture on the cover gives a hint of much of the Chaotic thrills to come. There are several new plastic kits, including Chaos Knights, Chaos Marauder Horsemen, and Chaos Hounds. These will certainly be a welcome addition to existing Chaos armies or a great, economical start to a new Chaos Warriors army. Rumor has it that these sets will be $22 US each as have been many recent plastic regiment sets. Of course, there’s the rumored plastic Daemon Prince model as well that will likely be released in the later “2nd wave” of new models for this army.

As expected, there are also many terrific new metal models, like the new Chosen Warriors, Chaos Lord On Daemonic Mount, a Nurgle Sorcerer, Sigvald The Magnificent, a Chaos Lord with a crab-like claw mutation, and Wulfrik The Wanderer. Some of these can be seen on the box cover shown above.

The most interesting story I’ve heard about the background of one of these new characters concerns Sigvald The Magnificent. Supposedly, he is so narcissistic that he has a retinue that carries mirrors around for him so that he can gaze at himself any time he wishes, which is a lot! This will apparently translate into some form of “stupidity” type rule during game play.

This is an exciting time for Chaos fans. First, we got a whole new range of wonderful plastics for Chaos Space Marines last summer, now we’re about to see an exciting new wave of Chaos Warriors for the Fantasy range. Many Chaos fans, myself included, have over the years used Fantasy Chaos miniatures for conversions in 40K as well, and the addition of more plastics to both ranges should make this easier than ever.

Personally, I’m thrilled to see the latest incarnation of the Warriors of Chaos. These new sculpts hearken back to the GW models that first captured my imagination so many years ago: mutated limbs, hulking frames, arcane and even bizarre designs on their armor. Fantastic stuff, literally.

Remember as always with rumors, anything can change or turn out to be incorrect with time. Chaos is coming, come to Chaos!
