The Grot Mega Tank is a great new Forge World kit that expands their already impressive line of Ork models.  It looks great next to the smaller grot tanks and is a fun kit in general.  The kit is smaller than I was actually anticipating though, which was a bit of a letdown but I’m still happy with it over all.

Quality: The quality of the casts is typical Forge World quality, sometime hit or miss. In my case with this kit everything arrived in great shape with minimal warping and over all in decent shape. I did, however, have two air bubbles on the front of the hull but they were covered by the prow so I didn’t worry about them. Getting the tracks mounted properly was a real pain. I had to make some shims to get them to line up properly. Come to find out that if you put the front prow on first that will help everything line up nicely, which I didn’t know until had already done all the extra work myself.

Value: I am on the fence as to the overall value. For the size of the kit I think its too expensive, even for Forge World prices. It does come with a nice assortment of weapons for lots of versatility. If the kit was about 20-25% less I would say it was a good value. I don’t regret buying it by any means though.

Look/Feel: The tank looks great and really goes well with the whole ramshackle feel of the FW ork line. Lots of battle damage, misc armored plates, hanging wires, etc. It was a real blast to paint as well.

Forge World  has posted a PDF of some experimental rules for the grot tanks which are great fun.

So what do you think?  Comments appreciated.
