40K: Yme-Loc Army Update – Now with Giant Grav Tank

Warhammer 40K
We are a bit over do for an update… and a lot of work has been done on the Commemorative Yme-Loc army since the last time the army showed up on BoLS.

Crazy Red Pretorian has been doing some brilliant work on the banshees… I’ve heard things about capes and feathers that sound awesome. Hopefully we can convince him to write an article about the sculpting work he’s done.

RealGenius has been working on some of the vehicles…

“One Serpent was built, but needed a little repair. The second was unbuilt, but missing a few parts. Luckily I have plenty of left over Eldar. The tops, cockpits and seats (at least in the one that wasn’t built) are still removed to make for easier painting.

The turrets were magnetized by slipping a small magnet inside the bottom of the turret and placing a large magnet inside the shell under the turret location.

Next up in a little more cleanup and then priming.”

The next big fashion trend for spring: the plastic alien army men manicure.
I’ve been building Dire Avengers and getting some painting done on Guardians while watching movies with Rabscutle – who is working on his Menoth army for Adepticon – and Spanky Harrison over the past few weekends. The two of them finish entire units while I manage to glue myself to all of my models. One day I’ll be able to not cover myself in super glue… one day….

In addition to completing troops, I decided that my Yme-Loc force needed something bigger. I really want to play Apocalypse with the army (this is my goal with the project: to play with big templates at WarGames Con this year) and I thought the addition of a heavy grav tank would be perfect. Really, what girl doesn’t want a giant Distort Cannon?
It’s the most simple and straight forward Forge World model I’ve seen in person – which may not be saying much because my experience is limited to Warhound Titans. I am beyond pleased with the quality  of the model… it’s a heavy chunk of resin with beautiful details.
After I clipped and cleaned up the smaller pieces, Spanky Harrison did a full dry fit and assembled the tank. I don’t trust my skills with such a thing, and his sculpting/modification ability is amazing. I think it took about 2 and 1/2 hours from start to finish, which included a good deal of grinding down flash. It’s currently with BushidoRedPanda to be painted. I’m sure there will be some updates from him soon.
Beyond the modeling work: BigRed and I have put together a training list based on both the models the army  had in it, and a variety of units to help learn the game and the intricacies of playing Eldar before playing in the narrative track this year:

Yme-Loc Eldar Training Army 1850
Eldrad

Firedragons x10 – Wave Serpent SC,SLs -Stones, St.Engines
Scorpions x10 – Exarch – SC, Shadowstrike
Harlequins x6 – Shadowseer

Guardians x10 – EML

Guardians x10 – EML

Wraithlord – BL,EML
Fire Prism SC, Holos, Stones

I’ll be scheduling a few games with Darkwynn and BigRed in the next few weeks. Who knows, you may even get a newb battle report out of it.
I’m really glad this has become a community project. It’s been great working with everyone over the past few months on this, and I look forward to sharing more as everything progresses.   With everybody’s help we should start to see painted units coming in very soon.

It has been a big process to take this army with its very special past, and do it the justice I feel it deserves.  It won’t be long now.  Thanks for listening everybody.
