FoW: On The Road to Nationals

With summer fast approaching it’s about time to start thinking about the Flames of War national tournaments – with that in mind I’ve been looking for some good tournaments to go to this spring.

This years nationals are very different from previous years’ events. Rather than having one large national event, only using one time period, Battle Front has decided to run three events: one for Late War, at WAR GAMES Con (run by us fine folks at BOLS), one for Mid War, at Adepticon, and one for Early War at Historicon. There has also been talk of a Masters type event that the winners for the three national events will be incited, too.

Four tournaments means four chances to beat some Germans.

The first step in getting to nationals is, of course, qualifying for them by placing at a local qualifier. I was very happy to learn about an Early War qualifying event being held not to far from me, and I jumped at the chance to take place it in. I’m quite excited to get to play from Early War and to try out my new Polish Army. Here’s what I’ll be playing:
Polish Kompania Czoegow (Tank Company).
HQ: 1 7TP jw
Combat Platoons: 3x Czolgow Platoons w/ 5 7TP jws.
Support Platoons: 2x Kawalerii Zmotoryzowanej Company w/ 3 Kawalerii Platoons.
1 Motorized Artillery Battery w/ 2x 75mm wz. 1897.
Here is the whole army in a wide shot.
This army gives me a large tank force, 16, and a huge force of FV infantry to support them. Each of the two big infantry units has 3 anti-tank rifles, which are a danger to pretty much any unit in shooting and very deadly to tanks in assault. The 7TP jw is one of the better tanks in early war. It’s cheap and its gun is a threat to anything but the heaviest French or British tanks. Even more important: it’s got better range and firepower than most of the tanks it will be going up against. That and numbers should give be a huge edge in any battle.
  Tanks, tanks, tanks!!

Unfortunately, Battlefront has only made the 7TP jw available in the large Polish army box, which comes with only ten. I needed 15 for this list, and not wanted to buy another massive box I was forced to buy some none BF models. While these tanks work, they are of far worse quality then the Battlefront ones, and as soon as the 7TP jw can be bought in blisters or platoon boxes I will replace them.
The inferior tanks. Not up to Battlefront standards.
In addition to the big mobs of tanks and infantry I also have the small detachment of artillery. These guys give me a little more flexibility, let me smoke some stuff (like the super-heavy Anglo-French tanks) and can, at need, double as anti-tank guns. So that’s about it for the army, here’s a few more pics.
Come my friends, let us advance across the rolling table tops of beautiful Poland!!

Sargent Gaworski advances in the middle of the infantry horde.

The artillery moves up to give support.

A Polish staff team plans the up coming battle.

Polish infantry are illuminated by a star shell during a night attack.

Well that’s all for this time, stay posted for updates on how I do in the qualifiers and at nationals.

So, that’s it for now. I would love to hear any opinions/advice on the army. How are you guys liking Early War? Any one out there got any good stories from qualifying events? And lastly, anyone have advice on good places to play in the PA/MD area? Lets here it from ya’ll out there.
