Sep 3 2012

You can find the darnest things when you go datamining.  Guess who the technology winners and losers are in the world of wargaming readers.

I love a good spreadsheet, and trendwatching.  Here’s a walk through memory lane for you.  Broken down is a listing of Browsers and Operating Systems for all BoLS readers taken from full August snapshots from 2012, 2010, and 2008.

We all know that larger big picture technology shifts are always occurring, but its interesting to see the actions of the big computing companies and consumers come home to roost right here in our community of fellow wargamers:

iOS: 12%
Mac: 10%
Android: 7%
Browser

Wow, what a collapse of Microsoft – On the browser side of thing we see Internet Explorer going from 46% to 16%.  Chrome goes from non-existent to 30% in 4 years, almost all of which is right out of Microsoft’s hide.  Today we stand at about a quarter of operating systems being on mobile devices, again taken out of Microsoft’s previous Windows marketshare.

Its a Brave New World out there folks. What platform do you prefer to get your wargaming fix?
