Welcome to another “This Week in 40K Podcasting,”

Here is this week’s top 5!

Highlights:  This week the boys are joined by Adan, and this show focuses on the rapidly changing landscape of 40K with all of the new codices!  They also touch on Imperial Armor Apocalypse: Second Edition!  They opened up the show with the ‘Work Bench’ where they discussed what they have been up too lately in gaming and the hobby.  They moved on to discuss their CelestiCon meet up with the other west coast podcasts and all the fun they had there.  Adan also added in a story about his recent Apocalypse event.  Next, the boys moved on to the main topic for the show, the rapidly changing face of the game!  There have been several codices and supplements and they discuss how these have affected the game and the hobby.  How does one keep up when playing more than one army with all of the new releases?  How have their purchasing habits changed, and are they filtering out things they normally would buy?  They moved on to discuss the competitive aspect of the game and how GWs design might be leaning more towards building army’s that are ‘all-comers’ lists.  They then discussed how the rapid release schedule has affected their local retailers and what it has done to drive some people to other games.  They then moved on to discuss a bit about the supplements and how they have also effected the meta and purchases.  Next, the guys take a quick look at the new Imperial Armor Apocalypse book.  They discuss the update to 6th Edition and the latest release for Apocalypse, the quality of the book, and some of the great units found inside, most of which are all the same.  To close the show out, Carl had an interview with Erasmus, the driving force behind the video The Lord Inquisitor.

Opinion:  While all of the Space Marine coverage from the numerous podcasts has been informative, and I do love it all, it was a nice change for me to see the overall effect of all these new codices and supplements on the landscape of 40K as a whole.  I have found my own purchases slow down lately, and that is simply just trying to keep up with the meta.  So this was a great over look at what has come and what we may expect to see in year two of 6th Edition.  The review of Apocalypse was nice too.  Great show guys!

The Overlords – Episode 135 ***Explicit***

Highlights:  This week the boys are joined by Jonny and Ciaran and they are reviewing the new Codex: Space Marines!  They open up with the News where they discussed some of the new releases for Space Marines from Forgeworld.  They moved on to what they have been up to lately in gaming and the hobby.  Next, Jason had an interview with the developers of Space Wolf the game.  They discussed the CCG aspects of the game plus its turn based tactics.  Next, Jason interviewed Carl from the Independent Character’s to discuss the use of a Kanban List to help organize your hobby!   Next, the boys began their two part series on the new Space Marine Codex.  They opened up with a look at the book itself, artwork, page quality and quantity, and more.  They then move on to discuss what fluff and backstory has been added to this book, and this included the successor chapters back stories as well.  They moved on to discuss the Special Rules for the army, starting with the Chapter Tactics and Doctrines, and this included the big White Scars, Black Templar, and Iron Hands Chapter Tactics!

Opinion:  I am always a big fan of when the guys take a look at a new Codex.  They boys do a really good job of going through all the big changes and what you need to know about Space Marine.  But this show had a whole lot more than that, like the interview with the developers of the Space Wolf game.  I’m not sure how I feel about the CCG aspect of the game, but it sounds interesting to me.  And that Kanban thing, I think I might just have to set one of these up.  I have too much backlog!

Highlights:  This week the guys hit us with a monster 5 hour show completely dedicated to the Death or Glory tournament they all recently attended!  They opened up by discussing the way DoG released the first day pairing and the army lists and some of the competition at the event.  They then talked about and broken down some of the lists they found interesting and some that concerned them.  They then discussed the lists that they will be bringing to the event; Franco is bringing a Farsight Bomb list and Dave is bringing his Screamer Star list, and how they match up against their first round opponents.  BJ also bumped in and he described the Tau/Space Wolves list he was taking to the event and why he was taking it.  They moved on to discuss their day one games, which they played and the outcomes of those games, in great detail.  When available, Dave had interviews with his opponents right after the game to discuss the outcome of the game and their lists.  They moved on to day two to detail out each of those games as well as their outcomes.  In the end, Dave and Franco faced off on the final table for all the marbles!  They closed out the show with a review of the whole event and how it went overall.

Opinion:  A monster of a show with a huge amount of tactics to soak up.  This was another one of their typical tournament reviews with interviews and detailed looks at their games.  I love these, which it would have been broken up over two shows, but still love them.  Thanks guys!

The 11th Company – Episode 176

Highlights:  This week the boys look at the new Space Marine Codex!  They opened up the show with ‘This Week in Gaming’ where they discussed the game they have been playing.  Next, DJ was back in ‘Simhammer’ and this week he discussed ‘area of influence’, including a units movement and its ability to score.  Next, the boys dove right into the new Space Marine codex, starting with their first initial thoughts on this new book.  This included units being cheeper, the book being brought up to speed with 6thEdition, and a potential for several competitive builds.  They start off with some of the Special Rules before moving on to the Warlord Traits.  They then detailed out the Chapter Tactics and the Ultramarine’s Doctrines, the White Scars, Black Templars, Iron Hands and much more!  They then moved on to discuss the generic HQ choices like the Chapter Master, the Captain, Librarians, and much more!  The moved on to the Tactical Marine in all of its variants, the Bike Squads, Scouts, Veterans, and Command Squads!  They then took the time to detail out the Honor Guard and how much belter they got in this book.  They then skipped a bit ahead to highlight the amazing Thunderfire Cannon and how this may be the auto-take unit of this book!  They closed out the show with another Q&A session with questions from their Facebook fans!

Opinion:  Once again, another great show from the guys, very in-depth look at the tactical applications of the new Space Marine Codex.  The only problem I had with it, was that there wasn’t enough of it!  I am really looking forward to the second part of the show and some of their list building ideas.  If there is a competitive build in this book, the boys with expose each and every one of them.  I cannot wait until next week’s show!

Highlights:  This week is part two of the boys Codex Space Marine coverage, all about list building and tournament impact of this book.  They opened up the show with what they have been doing lately in gaming and the hobby.  They moved on to the weekly listener poll and it was which Chapter Doctrine was the best.  They then moved on to the model of the week before getting on to the main topic; Space Marine list building!  First, Lange discussed the list that he built using the Imperial Fist Chapter Doctrines.  This included Pedro, a Librarian, a ton of Tac Marines, Terminators, Sternguard, Bikes, devastators, and more.  Mostly, this was an over saturation of bolter fire! Next, Nathan took a look at the Iron Hands Doctrine and tried to take advantage of all of their benefits.  He starts off with a Chapter Master (albeit unfluffy) and Honor Guard, Iron Clad Dreadnaughts, a Storm Raven, a Storm Talon, Tac Marines, and more.  They move on to discuss tournament play and how the army will look on the competitive circuit.  They then moved on to a Stupidity Check on the outrageous $12 price tag on the Ultramarine Chapter box from GW.

Opinion:  I have to stop making a big deal about the fact the guys as Jaded Gamercast are churning out some really great shows as of late, but here we are again with yet another great show boys.  I am finding that I really like their list building shows.  It gives you a great idea on some builds that you might be seeing out there real soon.  Loved the show guys!
