Welcome to another “This Week in 40K Podcasting,” Here is this week’s top 5!
Highlights:  This week the guys are back with another 4+ hour show!  They opened up with Dave, Franco, and BJ talking about some way you can help support the show.  The rest of the show is dedicated to the Battlefield Birmingham 2013 event they recently attended.  They started off with a preview of the event where they guys look at the event and what they expect to see there and what they are bringing at 1500 points.  Next was the boy’s traditional review of an event, where they covered every facet of the tournament.  They started with their first round games, and they described the armies that they faced, the mission and deployments, and the outcome of the game.  Where available they interviewed their opponents to discuss the game.  This went through each of their rounds, all 5 of them, and the guys gave their full level of detail for each of their games and sharing their though process during the game.  They closed out the show with an interview with the TO of the event.
Opinion:  Once again another outstanding tournament review!  This sounded like a very competitive event and this was just loaded with some great tactics!  I have always loved these sorts of show and recommended it highly.  Also, support the show and they tell you exactly how to do it!
Highlights:  This week the guys hit us with their 4hour show all about Apocalypse!  The boys are joined by Anthony this week and they start off with an introduction to him and his gamer credentials.  They then move on to the ‘Work Bench’ where they guy discussed what they have been up to lately in the hobby and gaming.  This included a massive Apocalypse game that Anthony and Carl recently played in.  Next, it was on to the main topic of the show, Apocalypse Second edition!  They first covered what an Apocalypse game really is and the scope of the size of the games, starting at 3000 points a side all the way up to sever hundred thousands of points!  They then moved on to what has changed and how the rules to the game help to ‘Forge the Narrative’.  They then discussed what it take to properly setup and play a game of Apocalypse, included what you really need like space, terrain, tables, food, and much more.  They discussed how the game should be played, that fun is the main focus of the experience, and more.  The then hit on Super Heavies and D-Weapons and some of the really interesting things they add to the game.  Next up was the ‘Warrior’s Lodge’ where the guys were joined by Jordan, Aaron, and Lars and they discussed several hot button topics.  They started off with what aspect of the 40K universe they would like to see more of, like Genestealer Cults, a new Race and much more.  They then discussed topics like ‘how to fix the White Dwarf magazine and make it something we want to buy’, ‘How has 40K effected how you play other game’, ‘How has 6th Edition effected your play of 40K?’ and much more!  They also focused some on the rapid release schedule and how it is effected their 40K experience.  They closed out the show another ‘Forbidden Lore’ where they discuss the Black Library book ‘Death of Integrity’ with the author Guy Haley!
Opinion:  Usually Apocalypse is just a yawn to me, we do not play it here, and even if we did it would be so rare that I really wouldn’t be all that too excited.  However, the guys have a way of changing my mind on all sorts of topics and this was one of them.  The Warrior’s Lodge was also quite fascinating, and I cannot recommend the Forbidden Lore enough.  By all means, read the book before listening to this segment.  Great show guys!

Imperial Vox Cast – Episode 102 ***Explicit***

Highlights:  This week Bill and Dawson are back and this week talking about Dark Angels!  They opened up the show with what they have been doing lately in gaming and the hobby.  Next was the main topic of the show, Codex: Dark Angels!  They opened up with some of the struggles that this poor book has had since its release with the Heldrake FAQ and some fundamental flaws like a lack of anti-air.  They then moved on to what they do like from the book, starting off with the named HQ units and their Special Rules.  They then moved on to some of the Chapter Relics and Psychic powers before moving on to the Troop choices.  Next were the Elite choices and great units like the Deathwing Knights and Dreadnaughts!  They then covered the Fast attack and the Heavies, like the Black Knights, the Flyers, the Darkshroud, and much more!  They closed out the show by summing up the Codex and running through some lists that they thought might be effective, however everything they do, Space Marines do better.

Opinion:  I am really happy to see the show back into a more regular schedule and with two of my favorite podcasters back at what they are great at!  Dark Angels I really feel bad for, as their poor codex really has been overshadowed by the Heldrake and now the new Space Marine book.  But this was a pretty good look at what they can do and some great ideas on how to run them.  DA players, you might want to check this one out.
Highlights:  This week the boys hit two big reviews with Codex Space Marines and the Iyanden Supplement for Codex Edlar!  They opened up the show with the ‘Round Up’ where they covered what they have been doing lately in gaming and the hobby.  This included a quick review of a 1999+1 tournament at Stomping Ground!  Next, in their news segment, they discussed the latest from GW, Forgeworld, the Black Library, and Rumors. This included the new paint collections, Adepta Sororitas, Sentinels of Terra, Horus Hersey Book Two, Tyranids, and much more!  Then, is on to the guy’s review of Codex Space Marines, and they opened up with the Warlord Traits, the awesome Chapter Tactics, and the game changing Gravguns!  They move on to discuss the HQ units, starting with the named Special Characters and moving on to the generic choices.  They then moved on to the wargear section of the book, where they re-look at the Gravgun, plus the new Chapter Relics!  They then briefly go over the other choices in the book and how the Space Marine book outshines the other power armor book.  Next it was on to the show’s signature ‘Battle Report’, with a 1000 point battle between the new Space Marines and the Orks!  They discussed the lists, the mission, the deployment, and detailed the battlefield.  Then, it was on to the dramatization of this great battle and they followed it with a review of the game.  Next, they moved on with their review of the Supplement to Codex Eldar: Iyanden!  They opened up by touching briefly on the story of the Iyanden and where they are in the universe of 40K.  They move on to talk about their use of Wraithguard, Wraithknights, and Wraithlords.  They then look at the new Special Rules found in this book, the new Warlord Traits, and the new Relics.  They closed out the show with ‘Bill’s Gaming Corner’ where he reviewed the Space Hulk card game.

Opinion:  If you are one for reviews, this is the podcast for you this week!  This had a pretty good look at the new Space Marine codex, although I did think that they could have gone further in-depth on the book.  I admit that it would have been rehashes of units we are all familiar with, but I think that there were some points that they just skipped over.  The Iyanden review was much better though, and the Battle Report a lot of fun.  Good show guys overall!

Preferred Enemies – Episode 62 ***Explicit***

Highlights:  This week the boys take a look back at 6th Edition and what it has brought us over the last year plus.  They opened up with a brief news segment where they discuss the new Sister Codex, Tyranids, and no Finecast!  They then moved on to the main topic of the show, a review of 6th Edition so far.  They discussed the rapid release schedule first and foremost.  They then run down just how the meta has changed in the last year, starting off with Necron dominance that then moved on to Tau and now Eldar.  They also discussed how the game itself changed from transport spam in 5thto almost all foot in 6th.  They briefly looked at all of the 5th Edition released and how those shifted the meta in one direct for the Imperial forces, like Space Marines, Wolves, Blood Angels and more.  They move on to talk about their favorite things about 6th, mostly rules and designs of the game.  They then covered the things that they like the least in this edition of the game, like Overwatch and Challenges for some.  They closed out the show with some hobby progress updates.

Opinion:  It seems to be a trend in the podcast community to do a look back at 6th and this one was pretty good.  I liked that they hit on what the meta was like at the end of 5th and how dry it was getting toward the end there and what were the most dramatic changes of 6th.  This was a fun show and a good look back in time.  Thanks guys!
