Goatboy here again and I want to first say sorry for the shorter article this Monday – but to make it up to you I’m sharing the keyboard (literally) with Kirby for this one.

The most excellent Kirby is down, over, and kind of up from the Outback.  While forcing him to eat terribly delicious fatty foods we brainstormed a bit on an army list which the Australians have been messing with for a bit after the Marine Codex dropped.

It is a terrible concoction of Marines/Tau that utilizes some of the mean things those Space Manatees love to bring to the table top.  I blame Kirby and his lamenting the price of our gas, food, and well just about everything here for making me price out this list.

Enough fluffing about this Army list – let’s just list it and break it down.

Space Marines/Goat Scars/Angry Tau combo 4000 – V1.3
List total – 1750 as this is an idea for the Las Vegas Open.

Primary Detachment: Marines – Goat Scars of Doom!
HQ: Chapter Master, Bike, Powerfist, Artificer Armor, The Shield Eternal
Troops: Bikes X 5, Grav-Gun X 2
Troops: Bikes X 5, Grav-Gun X 2
Troops: Bikes X 5, Grav-Gun X 2
Troops: Bikes X 5, Meltagun X 2
Troops: Bikes X 5, Meltagun X 2
Heavy: Thunderfire Cannon

Allies: Angry Tau
HQ: Commander, Command and Control, Puretide Chip, Drone Controller, Multi-Spectrum, Iridium
Elites: Crisis Suits X 3, Target Locks, 2 Missile Pods X 3, Marker Drones X 5
Troops: Kroot X 16, Kroot Hound, Sniper Rounds (Forgot to add when typing…)
Heavy: Broadsides X 3, High Yield Missiles X 3, Early Warning Override, Missile Drone X 2

Using the Army
So as it looks we are using other units to help make the Tau army better.  The Tau have issues with not having fast moving troops so a lot of the other lists that combo up with them utilize those options to help the Space Cows get across the field when their blistering fire power won’t kill those guys hiding behind a wall.

The HQ choice are used as force multipliers for both armies.  The Chapter Master gives a fancy bit of Ordinance as well as an option to get involved with a pesky Wraith Knight or Daemon Prince that might get to close.  The Commander is there to buff multiple units as needed with his suite of game breaking electronics from the upgraded Radio Shack that is the Tau Empire.  We all know what this type of HQ does and without any weapons he is there to help and tank some wounds as needed.  The thought was to use this HQ with Centurions because he just makes that unit so much better but with the lack of a 100 points we had to choose the Crisis Suits as they were a little bit cheaper.  If the new Nid book comes out and Carnifexes go to 5 wounds, T7 and cheaper then will see the Centurions come out on the table top a lot more.

The troop choices are the weakest link in this army as we all know killing 5 bikes is not terribly difficult.  It is the same with the Kroot option as another Tau Army or that pesky dragon can burn all of them up.  The weapon choices on the bikes are due to the lack of Centurions you would normally see in this type of list.  Losing the 100 points for the tournament means you have to look at other choices to help solve the problems this list might face.  Plus I really think Grav hasn’t had its chance to shine and will be changing up army lists for the next few months as we wait for the Nids to consume us all.

The Elite choice is a toolbox designed to make all the other pieces of the Tau pizza taste that much better.  The Target locks give us another mobile Broadside unit and the Marker Drones mixed with the Commander will let the Tau army combo out with the flashlights and hurt flyers and other options quickly.

Heavy choices are simple as they fit two distinct roles in the army.  The Thunder Fire cannon helps the Broadsides have better cover and let’s you snipe out annoying units that could be hiding behind very large pieces of terrain.  The Broadsides are just there to have another missile dump to kill out things as needed.

I didn’t go with a Riptide because the army just didn’t need it.  It had enough options to cover what the Riptide would do and still have some odd choices to confuse an opponent.

I still might do some changes so to remove some of the copy paste options that Kirby made me do.  I blame it all on him.  So yell at him in the comments because he is an excellent jerk face.
