Welcome to another “This Week in 40K Podcasting,”  Here is this week’s top 5!

Highlights:  This week the boys are celebrating their 100th episode and in typical 40K Global fashion, they chose to do so with a massive 7+ hour episode!  Dave started off with some quick thanks to those who what helped get the show to this point.  They then moved on to a look at the podcast itself and how it started and how it has evolved over the last 100 episodes!  This also included conversations on how the tournament scene has changed over the years and the vast changes it has seen as of late and some of their favorite moment from the show.  In the next series of segments, the boys sat down and discussed each of the current 14 armies in 40K with the top players in the UK to discuss how their army is the best armies in 40K.  There is just too much detail to put here, but trust me it is worth the listening to!  In between these reviews, was the colossal ‘Big Fight!’ finale between Eldar and Scarbrand!  They also had a ‘Q&A-Team’ segment where they discussed some very pressing rules questions.  As a bonus, all 16 participants of this year’s ‘Big Fight!’ took on Angron, the Primarch of the World Eaters, in a massive ‘Big Fight!’ special.

Opinion:  First, I have to send my congratulations to the cast and crew of 40K Global for this great achievement of 100 episodes!  Far too often in this niche of ours do podcasts fall flat on their face after only a few episodes, so for a show to reach this milestone is an accomplishment they should be proud of!  Over the last nearly three years this show has ranked very high on my weekly lists and for a lot of good reasons.  First and foremost I love the tactical and competitive nature of this show.  While still being an admitted fluff bunny myself, I am also a very competitive player and this show has been my one of my weekly homes to keep up with the meta of the game, find new tips and tactics, see the hot new lists crushing the tournament scene, and to learn some of those more obscure rules of the game.  However I really feel that their crowning achievement has been the community that they have helped to build over these years, not just on the show, but through their massive blogging community.  This show truly is global now with cast and contributors from all over the globe.  This show has really help bring the community together in one place so we all can be geeks together!  I am a huge fan of the show, they really have done some outstanding things over the years and if you’re not listening, you really are missing out.  Here is to 100 more guys!  Cheers!

The 11th Company – Episode 181

Highlights:  This week the boys dive into the Adepta Sororitas and the Sentinels of Terra codex supplements!  They open up the show as usual with ‘This week in Gaming’ where they discussed the games they have been playing lately.  Next the boys take a deep look at the ‘Sentinels of Terra’ and the very few rules found in this book.  The only real changes to the rules are that you are allowed to take the Devastator Centurions in the Elite slot and a modified ‘Bolter Drill’ rule.  They moved on to discuss the new character found in the book the Warlord Traits and the Relics.  Next, DJ was back with ‘Simhammer’ and this week he discussed squad sizes and how to manipulate a squad’s size to get better end results.  To close out the show they looked at the new Adepta Sororitas codex.  They start off by discussing the new ‘Acts of Faith’ and how they work before moving on to the Warlord Traits.  They then move on to the generic HQ choices like the Canoness, the Battle Conclave, Ministorum Priests, and more.  They then moved on to the sole Troop Choice, the Battle Sister and the subtle changes made here, the Dedicated Transports of the Rhino and the Immolator, and the Elite choices of the Celestians and Repentia.  They then moved on to the Fast Attack choices of the Seraphims and the awesome Dominions!  They polished it off with the Heavy Support choices of the Exorcist, Penitent Engines, and Retributors, as well as the named HQs Saint Celestine and Uriah Jacobus and the Relics.  They then discussed what they believe will be the most competitive builds with this army.

Opinion:  I have to say I have been looking forward to this episode since the release of the Adepta Sororitas codex as I always use the boy’s thought as a baseline for a new army.  As usually, the guys gave quite a detailed look at this book which I found quite valuable.  I also found this week’s ‘Simhammer’ segment quite interesting.  Very good work guys!

The Heroic 28s – Episode 81

Highlights:  This week boys continued on to part two of their look at Codex Space Marines!  They opened up the show with some announcements and a discussion about the post-GT blues.  This included tips on how to deal with a poor performance at a big event, how to keep interested in the game, and the difference of caliber of players at larger events.  They then pick up where they left off in their coverage of Codex Space Marines, starting with the named HQ units that aren’t Ultramarines and Vulkan He’stan.  They moved on to Shrike, Lysander, Pedro Kantor, and more.  They then moved on to the Troop Choices, starting with the Tactical Marines and moving on to the Scouts and Black Templar Crusaders.  They closed out the show with iconic the Dedicated Transports, the Rhino, Razorback, Drop Pod, and Land Speeder Strom for the Scout squads.

Opinion:  In a first for the boys, this week’s Codex review will now be plait into more than two parts!  I have to admit I really was hoping they would have polished off the book in this week’s show, however with the way they record I completely understand.  Overall, this was still a good look at the book and I would highly recommend the whole series!  Nice job guys!

Highlights:  This week the guys are taking an in-depth look at the new Adeptus Sororitas Codex!  They open up the show with what they have been doing lately in gaming and the hobby before moving on to their weekly listener poll and model of the week.  They then moved on to their review of the Adeptus Sororitas digital codex release.  They started off with the Special Rules of the army, including the Act of Faith mechanic.  They then moved on to the Warlord Traits and their on the table effects before looking at the individual units, starting off with the named HQ units of Saint Celestine and Uriah Jacobus.  They then moved on to the Canoness, Ecclesiarchy Battle Conclave, Ministorum Priests, and the Sororitas Command Squad.  They then talked about the only Troop choice found in the book and how they seem to be very over point-costed for what they do and the Dedicated Transports: The Rhino and the Immolator.  They then discussed the Elite choices of the Celestians and my favorite the Repentia and the Fast Attack choices of Seraphim and the awesome Dominions!  Then it was on to the Heavy Support choices, the deadly Exorcist, Penitent Engines, and Retributors.  They close out but looking at the armies Relics and what they can do for the army.  They closed out the show by looking at the army as a whole and point out some of the places where it falls down, like the lack of anti-air capabilities in the codex and the higher point costs for Battle Sisters then they are worth.

Opinion:  This was just an outstanding look at an army that I have been interested in for quite some time!  I was really glad the guys got back to their coverage of 40K and they kicked it off with a bang with the Adeptus Sororitas!  I really like every bit of this show, so I’d check it out!

The Overlords – Episode 138 ***Explicit***

Highlights:  This week the boys opened up their show with the latest in the news from their local gaming club.  They moved on to what they have been up to lately in the hobby and gaming.   Next, the boys return to their review of the Space Marine Codex with the Warlord Traits and the named Special Characters.  These included characters like Marneus Calgar, Tigurius, Cassius, Kor’Sarro Khan, Vulkan He’Stan, the Black Templar characters and much more.  Up next, the boys moved on to discuss the second phase of their Badab War campaign.  This included some Zone Mortalis and boarding action fun as the boys discussed the games that they played for their campaign!  Jason then had an interview with Miguel from the development team on Eternal Crusade, the 40K massive combat RPG in development now!

Opinion:  This week’s show as just a lot of fun.  There was enough crush in there in their look at the Special Characters from Codex Space Marine to satisfy me and was also loaded with a nice desert of their Badab War campaign.  Great show guys!
