The world needs it, but is the world ready for…a Jetpack Unicorn?!

3+ players, ages 13+, 10-60 minutes
One of Wyrd’s first releases into the non-miniature gaming scene, The World Needs a Jetpack Unicorn is a party game reminiscent of Apples to Apples (or the ever growing in popularity Cards Against Humanity).
Setup behaves in the standard way; everyone’s dealt a hand of cards (the transmog cards) and the first player flips over a scenario card. The scenario will have a question, which is cooler/worse/weirder, and two options. The judge will then need to ask questions of the other players over the items on the card, with the players defending their item (based on whether you’re on the right or left of the judge). While technically only the judge and the players directly on either side participate, we found it best to include the other players as well, so that people don’t have to go multiple turns without interacting.

The catch is each player has to pick a card from their hand and has to use those words in their defense of why their item is cooler/weirder/worse. Each card is worth a certain number of points from one to five, and the person chosen adds their transmog card to their score pile. After a certain number of rounds, everyone adds up their points and the highest total is the winner.
The questions and the transmog cards are in there to foster a group of discussions into the game. It’s a lot more involved than other game’s “you/you/and you played a card, that one’s funny, next.” However, that can be both a blessing and a curse. Groups with strong improv skills will find a great deal of joy in the game, however those who don’t will find it difficult or tedious to come up with a set of questions every round as well as defending their choices with mini speeches.
So which is wyrder: Malifaux or Jetpack unicorn?
