Warmachine/Hordes: Even More April Releases Unboxed

4 Minute Read
Mar 25 2014

Here are the rest of the Warmachine and Hordes releases for April.  It’s been a busy month for Privateer Press.  Time to look at miniatures!

First let’s do a repack. These guys have been available for a long time but now you can get the full unit in one box.

Here are all the pieces you’ll find inside.

Here’s one of the acolytes. Yep, that number at the bottom reads 2006. Hard to believe these guys have been around almost 8 years. After all this time the models still look pretty good.

Here’s the other acolyte from the unit. There is no actual unit Leader for the Spawning Vessel with the Vessel itself being the center point for the unit’s 8″ coherency range.

These guys have some really cool weapons. Nice meathooks to help pick up corpses for the cauldron.

And here is that Cauldron. Corpses go in. Lesser Warbeasts come out.

Up next we have the Despoiler: a new character warbeast for Skorne. It’s been awhile since I’ve seen a sculpt get such a bad reception. I don’t really see what the problem is. He looks good to me.

Here are all the bits.

His giant resin torso is a lot more emaciated and decrepit than you can see from the picture on the box.

The face looks equally tortured.

Crazy tail here.

I dig these lanterns. I like that they aren’t all the same. It’s like each one is a different relic.

Every Skorne Warbeast needs at least one tassel.

And here’s everything else.

And now it’s time for Bane Riders!

No mere plastic bag can contain Banes riding dead horses.

And here’s everything.

First up we have one of the horses. Lots of detail on this guy.

The other side.

I had to get a shot from another angle to show this detailed area

Here’s the other horse.

Here’s one of the riders. He seems quite nice as well.

Everything looks pretty good on this guy as well.

And lastly the leader.

There’s more filigree style detailing on the bracers

And here’s a sword.

Only the leader gets one of those distinctive Bane back spikes. He also gets his own unique shoulder pads. The pads for the rest of the unit match those of the plastic Bane thralls.

On first glance this seems like one of Privateer’s better plastic kits. The mold lines are pretty small, and I only found a few that run down areas of detail and therefore appear difficult to clean. So between this kit, the latest Heavy Vector kit, the Bane Thralls, and the Trenchers, the quality of these ABS plastic kits seems to be improving. It looks like there’s no way they’ll ever be quite as good as polystyrene plastic, but if this kit paints up as well as my Bane Thralls did, then I’ll be a happy gamer. Especially considering that this kit is a full $35 cheaper than most of the metal cavalry the other factions get. Unfortunately my schedule is too full to get around to painting them any time soon. But some day…

~ Hope you liked all the pictures!
