The Tabletop Spotlight is on the new Grand Alliance: Order book from Games Workshop!

The Sigmarites are back and this time they brought a LOT of friends. Hello again BoLS Readers – I got to sit with our friends at Dragon’s Lair Comics & Fantasy and we took a quick stroll through the new Grand Alliance: Order book for Age of Sigmar:

Let me just get this out of the way – this book is 280 full color pages in a softcover format. It’s made by GW so it has a certain expectation of quality in materials and production value. It has all of that in a $35 price point. YES. That’s what I’d love to see more of – I’m not a huge fan of the hardbacks because they aren’t as easy to transport. Sure they look nice on a bookshelf but I prefer my books to be usable. I also don’t care for the digital editions personally. Softcovers offer me exactly what I want: A physical copy of the book in an easier to transport format.

Aside from that, if you’re playing Age of Sigmar and have on of the Order Armies, then this book is worth picking up. It’s got all the war scrolls for the entire Order faction (currently) and all the sub-factions. It’s even got the new organizations like the Ironweld Arsenal (which is the first mixed race faction of Duardin & Humans). If you played the armies formerly known as: Empire, Lizardmen, Dwarfs, or Elves (Wood, Dark and High flavors) – then this book is for you. Naturally it also has the entire Stormcast Eternals Faction from all the previous books and the new Stardrakes and Dracoths.

One of the interesting things about this book is that you can tell from the “survivors” which kits were on the chopping block. Unfortunately for collectors those were all the old metal and finecast kits. Most of the more recent plastic kits were safe – but some of the “repeat” units were removed from the list. For example both empire and dwarfs had cannon kits. They decided to remove the more “generic” Empire basic cannon and just use the Dwarf model. The new sub-faction is the Ironweld Arsenal. It’s got a mix of both Empire artillery and Dwarf cannons. You can see this repeated throughout the elf line as well. The High Elf basic spearmen are absent but they still have all their “elite” infantry models (White Lions & Swordmasters, etc). The Dark Elves have their basic infantry but they are now called Bleakswords and Darkshards.

All-in, it’s 156 warscrolls & 19 warscroll battalions – all packed into this single book. We’ve seen this done for Chaos, Death and now Order. Moving forward this is the new normal for Age of Sigmar. Grand Alliance: Destruction can’t get here soon enough!

Reclaim the Mortal Realms!

The gates of Azyrheim are cast wide open, and the heroic forces of Order march forth to loosen the iron grip of Chaos that blights the Mortal Realms. From the Free Peoples to the Fyreslayers, each warrior is determined and strong – whatever their motives, each wishes to see their lands returned to the verdant glory of times much missed. Leading the charge are the glittering Stormcast Eternals and their Extremis Chamber, with their unlikely allies the seraphon; hardy duardin, aelfs and Devoted of Sigmar follow in their blazing path. The war for the realms has begun!

This 280-page book is the indispensable guide to the armies and factions of Order at the dawn of the Age of Sigmar. A must-own for all collectors and players of this Grand Alliance, and indeed anyone collecting and playing Warhammer Age of Sigmar, it takes you through the forces of Order with Warscrolls for every miniature, extensive information on the twenty-one factions, nineteen Warscroll Battalions and a selection of sample armies to help you mix and match your collection into a heroic fighting force – or provide inspiration for your next steps into the world of Warhammer Age of Sigmar.

It seems like the “Good” Guys have finally banded together to fight Chaos…I wonder how long this alliance will hold.
