The Tabletop Spotlight is on Star Trek Ascendancy!

The time of Ascendancy is here! That’s right BoLS Readers – Star Trek Ascendancy is out and about in stores now. Our friends at Dragon’s Lair Comics & Fantasy brought over a copy to show off!

Some of you may recall that we got our hands on Ascendancy at GenCon and already did a full unboxing and overview. So why are repeating? Because it’s out in stores! This game is a lot of fun and offers a ton of replay value. We’ve talked at length in our previous article about why we liked it, so I won’t repeat all that here. I do want to re-interate that the Space Lanes are really what make this game shine in my mind. The ability to change the board around and make it different every game is cool. Not to mention all the strategic advantage you’ll have by being the first to explore!

I’ve also talked about how this game has multiple avenues to victory. In one game, we had the Klingon Player win a Culture Victory, which kind of blew us away. Now, conversely, we were only playing with 3 players so a Military Victory is pretty difficult. I think once you add in more players and races to the game the odds for a Military Victory go up as there are more home planets to attack and conquer.

Overall, I really like this game and I really want to get my hands on the expansions too. I think Gale Force Nine has a good game on their hands and I hope they are able to put out more products for it. You KNOW they are sitting on the Borg and the Gorn – who else are they going to bust out? Time will tell!
