The Space Race is on in Pulsar 2849!

Our friends at Dragon’s Lair Comics & Fantasy brought over another great space exploration/empire building game – but Pulsar 2849 has some really different twists to your typical space faring game:

The core concept behind Pulsar 2849 is that humanity has started it’s exploration among the stars and has learned to harness different power sources to do that. Specifically Pulsars. Your mission is to go out among the stars, discover new areas, research more tech, and build an energy grid that will help re-distribute that power.

The basic gameplay loop is that at the start of the round, a set of dice are rolled and placed on a tracker. Then players will take turn drafting those dice. These dice are then used to help “pay” for things like research, travel, energy generation, etc. The dice drafting mechanics are what really drive this game and make it unique. Another thing I liked was that you could also manipulate the dice you draw with special tokens, making them + or – depending on what you needed.

The rules are a little more complex that what we’re covering here, but you can see us go over them in the video or read them all for yourself HERE.

As far as the components go, the game looks great. The board is actually rounded and the extra tech slots and dice tracker fit around it giving it a unique look and feel. Overall, I really liked how this game looks and uses the dice drafting. If you’re looking for a game that will challenge you and your friends to build a better energy trap, then check out Pulsar 2849 – it’s out now!

Pulsar 2849

It is the year 2849, and humanity has harnessed the power of the pulsars. Now we must find a way to distribute this power throughout the stars.

In this Euro-style game, players explore space, claim pulsars, and discover technologies that will help them build energy-distribution infrastructure on a cosmic scale. Dice are used to purchase actions, and players choose their dice from a communal pool. There are many paths to victory so you can blaze your own trail to a bright future.

Energy. We’ve got ALL the energy we need!
