Goatboy here again with a set of quick and dirty army-lists. I need your help to pick a post-FAQ army to bring the pain!

The new FAQ blew up a lot of my lists, so it is back to the drawing board/tweaking board to figure out what I want to play.  I got an event coming up and need to turn in my list next week, so I have to decide if I can find the time to paint more stuff or go with what I got.  It looks like more go with what I got – due to not having a ton of paint time for myself – let alone clients I need to work on.  Oh well.  Let’s start with the army I would have to paint the most for – as I only have five models of it painted so far.

Custodes & Friends – Bikes, Bikes, and More Bikes

Custodes Outride Detachment – 1 CP
HQ: Dawneagle Caption on Bike, Stabby Teeny Sword
FA: Vertus Praetors X 9
FA: Vertus Praetors X 3
FA: Vertus Praetors X 3

AM Battalion (Most likely Cadian just cuz thats the models I have) – 5 CP
HQ: Commander – Warlord – Grand Strategist
HQ: Commander – Kurov’s Aquilla
Troops: Infantry Squad
Troops: Infantry Squad
Troops: Infantry Squad

Assassin Vanguard – 1 CP
Elite: Culexus
Elite: Eversor (Alvin)
Elite: Eversor (Simon)
Elite: Eversor (Theodore)

This list is just me wanting to play the bikers and Assassins in some kind of Mix.  I bet the Assassins will be the first things that get dropped but it at least sounds interesting.  I bet a Vexilla guy with the -1 to hit banner will come back in and probably fit another Captain.  Or heck drop the entire guard stuff for some Scouts from Raven Guard.  Who knows? It is just one of those thought lists that I know I won’t have ready for this event – but will gather the pieces, sit on it for a month or two, and finally paint it in-between some other commission.  Fun stuff.

Now onto the list I initially worked up after seeing the rumors of the Rule of 3.  Initially, the list was the 5 Contemptors that showed up after the FAQ popped on BoLS.  I wrote it awhile before so sorry it was used as a list of the week etc.  It’s sad as I had all the Contemptors painted but that is life right?  If you play anything competitively expect things to change if you find something considered “too good” or becomes too spammed.  I decided to drop Iron Warriors and go with some Thousand Sons as the change to their smite power (Brotherhood of Sorcerers seems pretty good) means I can fit in a ton of Mortal wound damage.  Plus again this army doesn’t need any new paint as I got all of it currently.

Meet the Death Sons

Deathguard Spearhead Detachment – 1 CP
HQ: Daemon Prince, Wings, Malefic Talons X 2 – Warlord – Arch Contaminator – The Plate as Relic
FA: Foetid Bloat Drone, Plaguespitters X 2
FA: Foetid Bloat Drone, Plaguespitters X 2
Heavy: Plagueburst Crawler, Plaguespitters X 2
Heavy: Plagueburst Crawler, Plaguespitters X 2
Heavy: Plagueburst Crawler, Plaguespitters X 2

Thousand Sons Vanguard Detachment – 1 CP
HQ: Ahriman On Disc
HQ: Daemon Prince, Wings, Malefic Talon X 2
Troops: Cultists X 19
Elite: Helforged Contemptor, Chainclaw/Soulburner X 2
Elite: Helforged Contemptor, Chainclaw/Soulburner X 2
Elite: Helforged Contemptor, Chainclaw/Soulburner X 2

Again this is just dropping the two Contemptors, going with some Thousand Sons, and seeing if it can work.  I like the Drones, and with so many Plague Spitters you have to Arch Contaminator to get the most out of it.  Plus all of this is painted and ready to go so a total win/win for me.  Ahriman is calling to me since I randomly painted him a few weeks ago, so it is about time I used him.

For those wondering here is the changed list that keeps the Iron Warriors.

Deathguard Spearhead Detachment – 0 CP (Using one for the Plate)
HQ: Daemon Prince, Wings, Malefic Talons X 2 – The Plate as Relic
Heavy: Plagueburst Crawler, Plaguespitters X 2
Heavy: Plagueburst Crawler, Plaguespitters X 2
Heavy: Plagueburst Crawler, Plaguespitters X 2
Heavy: Helforged Leviathan, Soulburner Ribaudkin X 2, Hellflamer X 2

Iron Warriors – 1 CP
HQ: Daemon Prince, Wings, MoS, Malefic Talons X 2 – Warlord – Cold and Bitter – Fleshmetal Exoskeleton
HQ: Sorcerer
Troops: Cultists X 29, MoS
Elite: Helforged Contemptor, Chainclaw/Soulburner X 2
Elite: Helforged Contemptor, Chainclaw/Soulburner X 2
Elite: Helforged Contemptor, Chainclaw/Soulburner X 2

This one still feels good and again this entire thing is painted as I got a sweet converted Leviathan out of the Redemptor.  If you follow my blog you can see it on there with crazy conversions, angry faces all of it, and most likely a huge target as he is kinda big and hard to hide.  It is still tempting to throw down with it as again the Leviathan is a pretty neat Center piece model to play around.

Finally, the last list I am tempted to bring has me throw down with the Lord of Skulls.  This guy sits on my shelf, calls me a weeny for not playing him every game, and demands Skulls all the dang time. It is pretty annoying, but he helped me out in an event, so I have to listen to him.  Plus it is a very big center piece model and the idea of Warptime him all over the place sounds too good.  Plus I will be playing him with Ahriman to allow for the ultimate combos of Diabolic Strength and Warptime.

Skulls & Death

Super Heavy Auxillary – World Eaters
LoW: Lord of Skulls, Gorestorm Cannon, Hades Gatling Cannon

T Sons Battalion
HQ: Ahriman on Foot
HQ: Daemon Prince, Wings, Malefic Talon X 2
Troops: Cultists X 10
Troops: Cultists X 10
Troops: Cultists X 10

Deathguard Spear Head
HQ: Daemon Prince, Wings, Malefic Talon X 2 – Warlord – Arch Contaminator – the PLate
FA: Foetid Bloat Drone – Plaguespitters X 2
FA: Foetid Bloat Drone – Plaguespitters X 2
Heavy: Plagueburst Crawler, Plaguespitters X 2
Heavy: Plagueburst Crawler, Plaguespitters X 2
Heavy: Plagueburst Crawler, Plaguespitters X 2

Again this list is fully painted and ready to go just like the other one.  It also uses a Lord of Skulls and Ahriman – two things I love to put together.  I am sad I can’t get Ahriman on a Disc – but I feel like I might need the Command points as well as Daemon Prince for Gaze of Fate power.  I wish I could get the Death Guard Chaos Lord on a Bike to allow for a bigger and faster option to run around.

The final list is what my phone tried to change the name to S’Mores when I was typing it out in the Army builder.  So instead of that name, I call it S’Mites!.  It has a nice right and looks goofy written out that way.  Will leave ya with that as the idea is to use and abuse as much of the FAQ and Thousand Sons ability to throw out normally powered smites.

EVERYONE GETS A SMITE!

Thousand Sons Battalion
HQ: Ahriman on Disc
HQ: Exalted Champion on Disc, Dark Matter Crystal (Teleport ability round 1)
Elite: Tzaangor Shaman on Disc
Elite: Tzaangor Shaman on Disc
Elite: Tzaangor Shaman on Disc
Troops: Cultists X 10
Troops: Cultists X 10
Troops: Tzaangors X 28, Brayhorn
Heavy: Mutalith Vortex Beast

Thousand Sons Supreme Command Detachment
HQ: Daemon Prince, Wings, Malefic Talon X 2
HQ: Daemon Prince, Wings, Malefic Talon X 2
HQ: Daemon Prince, Wings, Malefic Talon X 2
LoW: Magnus

That’s eight normal smites and then Magnus’s chance to super smite.  You can do the Stratagem to get a +2 to cast and have Magnus going off on a 7+ with his super smite.  You can also set up your Tzaangors, teleport with the Dark Crystal, and then have a reroll charge or multiple options to reroll one dice with Gaze of Fate and a Command Point reroll.  Plus it still lets you use Magnus!  I am not sure on the Mutalith Vortex beast, and the idea of using all the Shamans on Discs are there as a cheap “smite” with a built-in reroll if needed.  Start the Tzaangors on the table and then throw them up as needed.  If I only had all the Tzaangos painted up.

Alright, that is it for now – the FAQ blew up a ton of stuff, and I feel I will end up going with the Lord of Skulls as a big ole beat stick for the weekend.

~What list do you think I should bring?
