Goatboy here with my latest 40K witches brew combining my favorite meta-stars for the win.

Goatboy here and I have had a doozy of a week.  First – I welcomed my second son into the world on July 6th.  Kristoffer Oscar Reidy came out ready to go on a Friday even though he was going to come originally on the following Friday – the 13th.  This made a really crazy weekend as I was supposed to get a ton of stuff done before he came along.  Oh well – lucky for us he seems to be in good spirits as much as a baby can be.  Momma is doing fine as well and overall this was an good end to a bit of a pain in the butt of a pregnancy (Broken ankle by the wife, food tasting odd throughout the entire thing, bouts of some stomach bug, crazy first child).  But hey – you don’t care about any of that lets talk about some 40k stuff!

Skulking Around the Meta

Currently I am trying to figure out the army I want to play when I finally get some time to throw down again.  I am really currently enamored by the Imperial Knight options – ranging from the Renegade bad guys to utilizing some of the good guy Households.  I don’t know how good they will be – but it seems fun to theory hammer them out.  Of course I am currently only painting a few things for myself – so that leads me to really looking at big stuff – or semi big stuff.  The next thing will be some “chaotic” Armiger chassis’s with the idea to utilize both weapon types to allow me to magnetize good guys and bad guys.  Will see if I get a chance.  So with that in mind about Knights – it leads me to think of what kind of interesting stuff I can combo with them.

Right now I am currently working on a speedy marine commission that has me painting Primarus to match a Space Marine scheme.  They are going to be slightly different as the plan is to use them as Deathwatch Space Marines.  I do think there is some interesting bits to those Marines and while it is still a rough game for those guys – we might find something useful with them.  Combo them with a few Imperial things – and maybe we have something neat.  Plus it will keep me from just throwing in a 180 point AM detachment to just get Command Points.  Let’s look at what I think is the best basic shell for a Deathwatch detachment.

Death Watch Battalion – cuz Command Points of Delicious
HQ: Watch Master – 130pts
HQ: Librarian, Force Weapon (Dealer’s choice), Jump pack – 120pts
Troops: Kill Team – Intercessors – 8 Intercessors, 1 Inceptor with Assault Bolters – Sarge with Power Sword – 209pts
Troops: Kill Team – Intercessors – 8 Intercessors, 1 Inceptor with Assault Bolters – Sarge with Power Sword – 209pts
Troops: Kill Team – Veterans – 8 Veterans with Storm Bolter/Chainsword, Biker with Chainsword – 189pts

Total – 857pts

This gives me some bodies to work with and a decent amount of anti horde firepower.  All of these guys can throw out a ton of wounds if needed.  I don’t expect any non vehicle to really survive when having 36 bolter shots coming from a teleporting in unit of Veterans.  Plus they can hit a lot with some Close combat nonsense if needed.  The Intercessors are just there to pepper opponents as needed and hopefully throw some wounds on the “bad guys”.

So as I build  2000 point lists – lets look at what I could add in to give some Oomph to the army.  I like Knights as you can get some cheap close combat power in some Gallants and then utilize some of the Armigers to create some long range firepower you needed to punch through some light vehicles.

Super Heavy Detachment
LoW: Imperial Knight Gallant, Heavy chubber – 354pts
LoW: Imperial Knight Gallant, Heavy chubber – 354pts
LoW: Armiger Helverin, Heavy Chubber – 174pts

Total – 882pts

This leaves you with almost 250 points to spare.  Of course what could you add to this – I am thinking beyond adding in an AM blob to gain command points we could go into a different direction and look at assassins.  I like the idea of Assassins as you can disrupt the middle.  The question is – do you go Eversors or Culexus’s?  You could go crazy with 3 Eversors or look at 3 Culexus’s.  Most like the Culexus’s are probably better as they can help generate Recon – snipe out some Psychic characters, and just be a pain in the ass if need be.  Let’s go with that and call this list done.

Elite Detachment
Elite: Culexus Assassin – 85pts
Elite: Culexus Assassin – 85pts
Elite: Culexus Assassin – 85pts

Total – 255pts

This lets you sit at having an extra 6 points for things or you can look around at doing some other things if you want.  You could tweak the Kill teams to fit in other stuff like say – 3 Eversors and a Culexus.  But I get the feeling the one listed above is probably where it needs to be at.  Lets put it all together and talk about what you could do with it.

The Unholy Trinity

Warlord – most likely one of the Knights as you don’t really need it for anything else.  This lets you only pay 2 more command points for another Relic and Warlord Trait for the other Gallant Knight.  I would probably do the Warlord with the 4+ inv save, the other Gallant with a 2+ armor save , the Warlord grabbing a nifty close combat relic, and the other Gallant taking the +2 to move Warlord trait.  From there you would probably put the Veteran squad into teleport to come down and blast something as needed.  This gives you a decent amount of Command points to play with – 9 starting off and letting you Full Tilt or do some of the other ones depending on your Household.

That’s about it for me now.  Between the kid and an AC break down I am friggin beat.  I have to rest up to knock out the last bit of a commission before Sunday (writing this on a Thursday).

Until next time, what do you think?
