Another classic D&D module–this time the first ever Wilderness Adventure returns to Dungeons and Dragons. Prepare for an expedition to the Isle of Dread.
The Isle of Dread was an important adventure module. Let’s get all film nerd-y for a while, and compare it to an early movie that everyone raves about, but when you watch it you’re thinking, huh, maybe this feels a little cliched–then later on you realize, oh wait, this movie did it first. That’s why it’s such a classic. And so it is with the Isle of Dread. This was the first wilderness module.
It took players to the titular island in search of a gigantic black pearl and other buried treasure, but instead they find the mutant, alien kopru who dwell at the heart of an evil temple at the center of the island. The Isle of Dread is full of everything you could want in a hexcrawl–pirates, giant squid, sharks, lizard men, troglodytes, and of course, dinosaurs. All of this is scattered around the island, which players start exploring after dealing with the starting village of Tanaroa and getting introduced to the Thanegioth Archipelago which would eventually blossom into a place in Mystara.
Anyway, the Isle of Dread did a lot for Dungeons and Dragons. It, and the other modules in the X series, brought eXploration and wilderness travel into focus in the game. Because of it, you get modules like the Temple of Elemental Evil and the Tomb of Annihilation. Now it’s coming back to fifth edition as part of the same partnership that brought you both the original and the updated Into the Borderlands. So feast your eyes on all the classic adventure just waiting for you.
Original Adventures Reincarnated
Into the Borderlands, was the biggest release in the history of Goodman Games. The reception to it continues to amaze us, and we are thrilled beyond belief. And we are very proud to announce that the second volume in the Original Adventures Reincarnated series is…drum roll please…X1: The Isle of Dread! OAR 2: The Isle of Dread will contain scans of the two original TSR publications of Isle of Dread (orange cover and blue cover editions), plus a 5E conversion, as well as interviews with original creators and other special features! We’ve also updated the mapping style of the 5E edition, so it will now feature illustrated hand-drawn maps that bring back memories of the original TSR style. Lead writer Chris Doyle and editor Tim Wadzinski return to the project after doing such a great job on OAR 1: Into the Borderlands. Into the Borderlands is back in print and available, by the way, so check your FLGS or our online store for your copy today! And Original Adventures Reincarnated 2: Isle of Dread is currently scheduled to release in November of this year! We’ll be sure to keep you updated with news about it as it gets closer.
