Return to the world of the Loop. Things from the Flood takes the world of Simon Stålenhag’s Tales from the Loop, but it’s a darker look. Now it’s the 90s–now the kids are teens, and the world is a much more dangerous place.

Things from the Flood is the sequel to Simon Stålenhag’s, taking us once more to the world of the Loop. Revisit the world outlined by the 2017 hit Tales from the Loop and see how things have changed in ten years. Set in the 90s, Things from the Flood is a darker, more dangerous look into a world with teens and their problems.

One of the interesting things about this Kickstarter is the new lens that it casts on the world of Mälaröarna. From the Kickstarter’s description we learn that this is a decade of change. The Loop has been shut down and taken over by a corporation, a Flood has brought in strange waters, a virus has changed the machines, making some of them dangerous and unreliable. It’s all set up to capture the anguish of all the change that rushes in all at once.

Of being caught in that space between beginning and end, adolescence is a trying time–and much as Tales from the Loop used its mysteries and sci-fi elements to explore themes of childhood, Things from the Flood is here to dive into the world of adolescence. Presumably this means a change to some of the rest/recuperation and scene rules, and if you have played the original Tales from the Loop, you know how amazing those rules can be for establishing character.

Character is at the heart of Tales from the Loop, and it feels like it’s still very much the core of Things from the Flood. It’ll be interesting to see how they differ–Things from the Flood promises a darker experience. Teens, unlike kids, can die according to the story rules. So your friends might not be as safe as you thought.

Which sort of perfectly mirrors the different perspectives the two characters had. And in the gorgeous art of Things from the Flood, we get to see some slightly more adult themes explored here.

From the description, you might fail miserably in love, you might find a time frought with tension and other heightened emotions. It’s a decade of change, both within and without.

t started on Christmas Day in 1994. Dark water suddenly rose from the land, invading our homes and lives. They say it came from the depths inside the Loop. Whatever it was the Flood changed everything. Nothing would ever be the same again.

Welcome back to the Loop. Things are different now.

The world does not seem so innocent anymore.

Its the ‘90s and the once mighty Loop has been shut down, the experiment abandonded and the land bought by Krafta, a powerful corporation. You are no Kids anymore, but Teens trying to find your way in a decade of change – both within and around you.

The Flood has transformed the once pastoral islands into a dark marshland. Some say that the dark water pouring out of the ground comes from within the Loop itself. Machines are afflicted by a strange virus turning them unreliable and dangerous.

Still, your lives go on as before. You go to school, fall miserably in love, try to do everything possible to fend off boredom. When you hear about other teens going missing, and even turning up dead, you realize its time to gather the group again.

One way or another you will find out what these Things from the Flood really are.

Yeah this game sounds amazing. The good news is the Kickstarter is already wildly successful, having raised $250,183 of its asked for $11,371. You can snag all kinds of amazing backer rewards, so follow the link below, and learn more.
