Goatboy’s 40k: All I want for Christmas is Slaanesh – and Other Stuff…

Goatboy here again, it’s Xmas eve, and I am super excited about 40k. I think we’re all getting Slaanesh for the new year, and then some!

I Want Me Some 2019 Slaanesh

Woohoo let’s start off with this meandering editorial and talk about what I want for Xmas this year.  Beyond the clothing, socks, and underwear – the big thing I want this year is for Slaanesh to come back strong.  The chitter chatter seems to point to a “rebirth” of the creepy one so it looks like my wish will come true.  But I just don’t want the Dark Prince back – I want this Chaos God to be feared once again.

Daemons are in a weird place right now.  They just feel like a soup ingredient in the army that is Chaos currently.  You mix in some Daemons – normally Nurgle – throw in some big baddies and you get an army of jerks.  It seems to play the same and runs on having hot streaks of the dice game.  Instead of just being the chaos-crouton in a really creepy salad I want Daemons to go back to being a feared army.  All lead by the creeptastic body horror that is the new Slaanesh model style.

I know that AOS is looking at Slaanesh breaking out of the prison set by the Elves – so beyond the rumored Moonclaw Goblins I think will see some AOS love before we get to the crazy circus town that is a 40k Slaanesh release.  Will finally see an updated Keeper of Secrets with hopefully decent rules.  Will have 3 different versions all holding onto secrets with names like Keeper of Super Secrets, Keeper of Dark Secrets, and Keeper of the Secret of the Perfect Cheesecake.  I really just hope they are good, cost not too many points, and the model kicks ass.  I can guess that it will be two of those but hey – one can always hope.

I feel like the latest CA really did push some Slaanesh goodness.  Did you see how a 10 man squad of Daemonettes is just 4 points more them a unit of 3 Nurglings?  Sure the Nurglings have “more” wounds but the Daemonettes might end up being better in the long run.  There are too many multiple damage weapons out there so the Nurglings Feel No Pain is just not nearly as good as just having more models.  Plus those pesky creepers can do damage to any model they hit.  It really has me rethinking some of the soup lists as having a few layers of attacking first psuedo genestealers might be a good thing.  Or it could just blow up in my face as all those guys die to holy bolter fire from a weird Sisters army.

Beyond the Daemon love there has to be Fulgrim coming soon.  Here is a true “bad” guy of the 40k lore and while we all know Abbadon is coming in like 70 days?  69 days?  Do they even count days the same in the 40k universe where there are a ton of planets, different rotations around the stars, and monstrous gods of chaos in another realm outside of time and space?  I get the feeling the Emperor’s Children are going to finally get some love beyond the self love they give themselves.  The 80’s David Lee Roth Noise Marine should be a hint enough that the brown noise musicians are going to ring in the hits in the new year.  Finally getting another Primarch will be great as he will blast into this world, pushing the narrative forward, and maybe being a decent model.  Or he/she/etc will look cool as hell and just sit on the shelf next to my sad Magnus and in box Mortarion.

GSC, Vigilus & Beyond

This near year feels pretty wide open with 40k pretty much finishing codex wise beyond the GSC come out and the Sisters get finished with their testing.  We know will see Vigilus come back with a Campaign book and a lot of the other armies getting some Formations that could be good for matched play.  After that who the heck knows.  I know some chatter says Baal is going to get looked at especially with another big push of Primaris as well as a nice little move into some Khorne Chaos Daemon goodness if they wanted too.  I would hope we see World Eaters but GW doesn’t want to make a really sweet new Berzerker kit and an army full of Khorne Juggernaut riders.  My wallet thanks them.

I am guessing Vigilus II will be Black Legion, probably something Khorne based, Daemons, Grey Knights for the good guys, and then some other Marine options from the updated Marine book that will most likely come out at some point.  Isn’t it crazy to think we have only had 8th edition for not too long and will most likely see a redux of two of the “new” books with Chaos Space Marines and the Space Marine book?  I am not too annoyed as while it is kinda annoying to need to buy a new book – both of those books need a lot of work to get “fixed”.  But heck that’s a discussion for another time as we really just want to end this nonsense on a positive note.

A Busy Goat Is a Happy Goat

I didn’t want to get too deep into something no one would really get a chance to read as this next week is a pretty slow one.  There are no new releases and everyone should be spending time with family if they can.  I need to figure out my LVO list soon as I have to submit it at some point.  It is starting to look like an Ork army as I don’t really need to repaint everything – other then decide if I want to bite the bullet on rebasing a ton of jerks and investing in getting good with a chess clock.  Or heck just wing it and throw some dice like that boss Nick Rose.

~What are you wishing for this upcoming year?  What armies are you wanting to see or not see to save your wallet some stress?  Anything fun you feel like painting?  Or is it just a race to finally finish an army or two?
