Warmachine: Alyce Marc Unleashes the Monster Within

4 Minute Read
Dec 13 2018

Alyce Marc is a new warcaster attachment for the Crucible Guard, but underneath that mild mannered exterior lies a monstrous secret. We’re reviewing Alyce’s abilities and figuring out which warcasters are likely to bring her along.

The wife of warcaster Lukas Di Morray, Alyce is a talented warcaster attachment. Through the use of an experimental serum Alyce is also able to transform into a hulking monster capable of dealing some significant damage on the battlefield. These two forms are known respectively as Little Alyce and Big Alyce.

Alyce’s forms are represented by the 2 different models you get in the box

Little Alyce

Little Alyce does her job as a warcaster attachment very well. With 3 great abilities she is sure to be a consideration when making any Crucible Guard list. The downside is that all her support abilities are actions, so she is limited to one per turn.

  • Empower – Needing to remove Disruption doesn’t happen often, but when it does this ability is game altering. Plus it’s never bad to have an extra focus available.
  • Guidance – This is a big one. Crucible Guard doesn’t have much access to ignoring stealth or clouds, this is a major weakness that Alyce fixes and is reason enough to have her in your list if you are planning on having a serious ranged presence.
  • Harmonious Exaltation – Reducing a spell by 1 is always useful. Whether it allows you to cast an extra spell, or simply cast a spell and camp an extra focus, this is an ability you are going to use almost every single game.

Little Alyce’s last two rules, Transmogrification Elixir and Traumatic Transformation, both relate to her turning into Big Alyce. The first lets you voluntarily bring Big Alyce out during your Control phase, but choose wisely as once Big Alyce is out there is no going back. The 2nd rule is very verbose but basically just states that when Little Alyce dies, Big Alyce replaces her. This all happens before the ‘disabled’ step so there are very few rules in the game that can prevent Big Alyce from making an appearance.

Big Alyce

As you might expect Big Alyce is the complete opposite of Little Alyce. What Big Alyce lacks in support she makes up for in combat abilities; gaining SPD 7, MAT 8, Jump and 2 POW 14 attacks! Big Alyce has some decent stats for a solo as well, ARM 17 with 8 boxes means the enemy will need to devote a decent attack or two in order to take her down.

Late game when the support abilities of Little Alyce are no longer needed, Big Alyce is the perfect model to help clear zones, hold flags, or just deliver that extra last few damage to a hard target.

Let’s see the Squire do that!

Which Caster is Bringing Alyce?

Every caster in Crucible Guard can bring her, and with Alyce’s great set of abilities there isn’t one who doesn’t want her. The only reason not to bring her is if you have a very specific list in mind and can’t spare the points(or free solo spot). Lukas probably wants her more than most, as he has a special ability that only works if she’s around.

Wrap Up

Alyce Marc is an excellent warcaster attachment that most factions would love to have. She’s available in both Crucible Guard themes and therefore is likely going to be seen in tons of lists. If you are starting a Crucible Guard army Alyce is an excellent purchase as you start to expand your forces.

What caster do you think wants Alyce the most? Any combos you are excited to try?
