Goatboy’s 40K: The Type of List that Can Win BIG at LVO

Goatboy here again and as I do every year – I plan some kind of list for LVO.  This year it will have win BIG and smash through the competition. You know I love Chaos…

This year it is sounding like you have to win all your games, win them big, and wreck face to get into the top 8.  As time has gone on – while I like a competitive game – wrecking face and playing at a top level of play is extremely hard to do.  Work getting harder, kids being kids, and life just moving in a different direction leaves me less time to practice and less time to invest in gitten’ gud. Thus I have to think of lists that can hopefully give me more wins then losses.  Plus let me play something cool and different.

Option 1 – Killing With Khorne

Currently I have been obsessed with making some non horde Chaos Space Marines to work.  I have messed with Khorne Zerkers a lot and find that no matter what happens – getting to attack twice with a butchering unit is awesome.  Thus the first list is a full CSM take on an army.  Yes I use some Alpha Legion stuff to help deal with some issues.  Namely tough as nails units and some long range firepower.  I am unsure the complete make up on the Alpha Legion side as I might need more firepower or I might not.  It really depends on how I feel and how much paint work I get done.  But enough of that – lets go with this little concoction:

Khorne Tactics

The idea of this is to push forward with Zerks – hopefully hit something cool and reroll hits and wounds in combat to buzzsaw through an enemy.  Heck these guys can be a mean threat to a Knight or two with so many attacks.  Throw in a Veterans of the Long War and watch as you just pour on the wounds.  If LVO has me playing on a ton of enclosed buildings then I can easily move in, mess up the neighborhood, and bring the true meaning of Khornemas (don’t bother, I’ve already trademarked it) to everyone involved.  Plus this army doesn’t take much to paint to finish up beyond a character or two and fixing some vehicles.  Heck if you watched me paint last Wednesday then you saw the Leviathan Dread get ready for the table top.  I really wish we had some Vigilus Formations to use but I guess will have to wait for a few months.

Option 2 – Knocking em Dead With Nurgle

After this mess the other random list I thought about is using my Death Guard army I have painted.  I painted a ton of guys and it would be nice to actually take them out to a big tournament beyond just using some Plague Burst Crawlers for a random dread/tank army.  This was the initial one I thought of that tried to use a ton of interesting stuff and at least just be a pure DG army.  Plus it uses a lot of Plague Marines – which I happen to have a lot of just wishing to get paint on them.  Heck I even have the Butcher Cannon dreads done as well before the dreaded rule of 3 ruin my Xmas plans.

Pure DG for the Win! Version 1

Death Guard Battalion – 5 CP [122pl, 2000pts]

Daemon Prince of Nurgle, Wings, Malefic Talon X 2 – Warlord – Arch Contaminator – Relic – Suppurating Plate [9pl, 180pts]
Necrosius The Undying [7pl, 135pts]

Plague Marines X 5, Blight Launchers X 2, Bolters X 3 – [7pl, 100pts]
Plague Marines X 5, Blight Launchers X 2, Bolters X 3 – [7pl, 100pts]
Plague Marines X 7, Plague Knives X 2, Balesword X 1 –  [10pl, 113pts]

-Elites-

Bilogus Putrifier [4pl, 60pts]
Helforged Contemptor Dreadnought, Butcher Cannon X 2, Havok Missile Launcher – [10pl, 144pts]

Chaos Rhino, Combi-Bolter – [4pl, 72pts]

Grandfather’s Tactics

This is just a pure DG army, no Cultists, no pox walkers, and a ton of vehicles to push around.  It has decent range with the Plagueburst Crawlers and Contemptors to throw out wounds.  The 7 man close combat Plague Marine squad is there to do a mortal wound grenade trick that can be helpful from time to time.  The Two Drones can float around, be annoying, and throw out some damage as needed.  I am almost tempted to try a Chaos Lord with Jump Pack and the Relic weapon.  It gives you another form of mortal wound damage if you need too.  Still I just like the idea of using some things you never see and not relying on Cultists to cover your troop costs.

~What do you guys think is the more interesting list?  What would be more fun to try and win with?  What would be more fun to play against?  Do you think anything I wrote up is even worth fixing to get ready for LVO?  Do these pants make my butt look too big?
