Renault Brasil has tapped into some 1980s nostalgia with their latest SUV ad campaign – they’ve made a live-action adaptation of the animated D&D series.
For those of you who aren’t quite old enough to remember, the cartoon aired on Saturday mornings for a glorious three seasons. It follows six kids that enter the world of Dungeons & Dragons via an enchanted rollercoaster. In the magical realm they meet the wise Dungeon Master that gifts them magical weapons to aid them in their quest to return home. In their quest they meet magical creatures, terrifying monsters and wizards of all sorts. The series was very popular in Brazil – where it’s known as Caverna Do Dragão.
Behind the scenes video and photos of the ad being filmed were incorrectly shared on the net as a look at Paramount’s upcoming D&D live action. Sorry to disappoint if that’s what you were hoping. That said, the ad is still pretty dang awesome (even if you don’t understand Portuguese). The team takes on Tiamat and other foes in the 1:45 long spot…
Renault shared a behind the scenes look at the making of the ad. It’s also in Portuguese (the English subtitles are wonky), but you get a look at the storyboards, cast, and how they filmed it.
You can check out more on the ad and the new KWID Outsider, and see some more sweet character posters, on their corporate site.
