Baldur’s Gate 3 has been confirmed with a gruesome trailer featuring a very fortunate guard getting to learn about Mind Flayers up close and personal.

Announced during Google’s new Stadia Connect panel, Baldur’s Gate 3 has been confirmed. In a feature highlighting the fact that developers can play with Google’s new streaming console, came this jewel, that finally gives some light to the term “Ceremorphosis.”

Baldur’s Gate III will push the boundaries of the RPG genre and offer a rich narrative with unparalleled player freedom, high-stakes decisions, unique companion characters and memorable combat. It is Larian Studios’ biggest production ever and will be playable together with friends or as a single-player adventure.

Developed by the creators of Divinity: Original Sin 2, Baldur’s Gate III is the official next adventure in the venerable Baldur’s Gate series. The teaser trailer shows a return of a malevolent presence to Baldur’s Gate, intent on devouring it from the inside out, corrupting everything that remains in the Forgotten Realms. The fate of the Forgotten Realms lies in your hands.

And that malevolent presence is Mindflayers. You get to watch the guard turn into one of the malevolent Illithid, hungering for brains. Interestingly enough, the entire City looks to be devastated. No word yet on whether or not this story will be connected to that of the Bhaalspawn from Baldur’s Gate 1, 2, and Throne of Bhaal. Given the Mind Flayers’ presence, and the Bhaalspawn storyline’s satisfying ending, it feels like this is the start of something new and terrifying, but we’ll have to wait and see.

For now, there are so many details worth latching onto in this trailer. Like that most fortunate guard’s tabard, which is clearly that of a Flaming Fist.

The game is due out for Google’s new console, but will be released on PC as well.

Happy Adventuring!
