At long last, the seed of the wargroves have sprouted and the brand new Sylvaneth are finally hitting shelves. I am super stoked and can’t wait to see what the new battletome brings to the battlefield. Here’s what I’m most looking forward to  in the upcoming release.

New Wargroves

Representing the different forests under Alarielle’s sway, Wargroves are the different Sylvaneth clans, and each one brings a different style of war to the battlefield. In the previous incarnation of the Sylvaneth battletome, each of the wargroves were just super battalions. This meant that Sylvaneth would almost always be given first turn, but also meant that players had to devote a fairly large portion of their pitched army points to battalions. Now, wargroves are just additional options that a player can take without additional points, like Stormhosts or Lodges. They bring unique combat abilities, traits, and artifacts to Sylvaneth armies, and each will offer interesting challenges and benefits for new or returning Sylvaneth players. Winterleaf was always may favorite in the old book, so I’m excited to see what kinds of changes GW makes so that each one feels unique and characterful while still maintaining the old flavor.

New Wyldwood

Wyldwoods have always been an integral part of the Sylvaneth army, and no angry tree army was complete without a couple of Citadel Woods bases gumming up the battlefield. However, the model was showing its age a little, and they were notoriously hard to transport. Thankfully, a brand now kit is being released and boy howdy is it pretty. I really like the way the three tree models form a circle at their roots, like fairy circles of old legends. The rules for Wyldwoods in the old book were fairly solid, so it’s not likely that much will change there, but even if it does I’m sure every player will still invest in a kit or two. With Verdant Blessing still around and able to throw out a brand new Wyldwood on a 6, my money is on at least two.

Endless Spells

As with all the new releases since the Soul Wars, Sylvaneth are getting three brand new Endless spells to add to their arsenal. Though we can’t say for sure what these new spells will do yet (unless you were able to snag the battletome while it was online, in which case, well done) the design for them is gorgeous. I am particularly interested in the Gladewyrm, just because the model looks really awesome, but the floating skull tree and the beehive are also very intriguing. I can’t wait to find out more about what the spells do, and how they will interact with the rest of the Sylvaneth list.
