Redemptor Dreadnoughts vs The Invictor Tactical Warsuit – Who wins?

Is bigger necessarily better? That’s what we aim to find out in this case of the newest and biggest toys in the Astartes Arsenal. First up, the Redemptor Dreadnought, which is to normal dreads what Primaris are to tiny marines. Then there’s the Invictor Tactical Warsuit, which lets you take power armor with your power armor. Both of them are big and bulky brawlers, but which one should you take?

Redemptor Dreadnought

The newest dread on the block. The Redemptor is the biggest of the dreadnoughts and features all the latest, modern weaponry in the arsenal. We’re taking a look at the base model for this comparison:

Pros

  • Higher toughness
  • Lots of weapon loadout options
  • More potential shots per model
  • Higher max strength weapons

Cons

  • More expensive
  • Slower
  • Fewer Special Rules

Invictor Tactical Warsuit

It’s the new walking roll-cage. The invictor is aiming to replace the whole dreadnought family all at once – but for now we’re just comparing it to the Redemptor only. How do the stats line up? Take a look:

Pros:

  • Infiltrate
  • Cheaper
  • Can hit with all its weapons turn 1
  • Able to shoot still in close combat

Cons

  • Lower toughness
  • Fewer weapons/shots per model
  • Harder to damage heavy armor at range

Thoughts

From a pure stats comparison, these two dread-sized models are pretty close. The Redemptor has the edge in terms of heavier firepower potential, but the Invictor Warsuit seems like it can be much more focused on doing what it does best. Being able to set up anywhere outside of 9″ from the enemy opens up considerable tactical options for you, and coming in at a cheaper price too.

It all comes down to what role you’re looking for these models to fill – are you looking to bring heavy anti-vehicle power, skirmishing with infantry, or taking out entrenched mobs? Both of these vehicles do alright when they’re up close and personal–but that’s not really their strongest suit when all is said and done. Redemptor Dreads might take a little longer to get going, but with Invictors right up close and personal (potentially) on Turn 1, they might die that much faster too.

It really comes down to what type of Marine Army you want to run and what type of dreadnought-ish thing you’re looking to field. So which one is the biggest and baddest boy of the Space Marines?

~It’s a tough one. Which one would you pick?
