If you’re looking for a sneak preview of Baldur’s Gate: Descent into Avernus, you’ve come to the right place with the latest episode of Hellbound.

Baldur’s Gate: Descent into Avernus will take players from the northern banks of the Chiontar River, where Baldur’s Gate, the jewel of the Western Heartlands, rests–to the depths of the 1st layer of the infernal reaches of the Nine Hells. Avernus is a blasted, suppurating wasteland with many a horrific sight to see (and get imprisoned in, if they’re unlucky). And you can get a pre-emptive look at some of these sights by following Hellbound, a live-play stream that shows off the newest adventure with WotC designer Kate Welch at the helm. Check out the second episode below.

Each of these episodes is under an hour, and gives you just a hint of what you can expect. Come for the previews, stay to watch the player running the Tiefling Warlock school everyone else on what true bravery looks like. For those of you who don’t have an hour–and I get it, life is hard these days, and there’s a lot to do, that’s why you have three different box services to bring you dinner, clothes, and the newest phone–here’s a look at the Hellwasps.

As you can see, the Hellwasp nest is full of the remains of angelic creatures, they’re made into the papery material of the hive which is actively floating away from the hell trying to contain it. A few interesitng things–there’s a surprising number of angels up there, having been collected by swarming Hellwasps. From the episode we know:

  • Hellwasps are size Large
  • Their stinger attack deals 8 points of damage + 7 points of fire damage
  • Targets must make a dc 12 con save or be paralyzed

The other detail worth gleaning is that Time is fluid in Anor Londo Space is in flux in Avernus. Walking towards an object, characters seem not to cross distance, but to get closer as though blacking out and waking up closer, dreamily shuffling towards your destination. Hence the necesity of the Infernal Machines.

Happy Adventuring!
