The Insider – October 4th – Prime
Welcome to this week’s BoLS Prime Insider. Let’s talk industry whispers, what’s coming in the week ahead, and a look behind the scenes of the studio.
Welcome back to this week’s INsider. This will be an ongoing weekly column where you get a behind the scenes look into the BoLS office, what our core team is up to, and working on, as well as what we are hearing in the industry. Our promise to Prime members was to give you greater insight into what we are up to, excited about, and what we are seeing and hearing out there in the industry.
Remember you can always hop into the member groups and directly chat any of us up or ask questions. So enjoy and don’t be a stranger. On with the show.

Dual releases for Age of Sigmar, get two different reactions. Everyone in the community is jazzed abut Cities of Sigmar, and many are eyeing those old Warhammer Fantasy armies that have been sitting around on shelves for years. There’s a lot of very cool army builds (Steam Tank mob) and combos available. On the Orruk Warclans front – it’s fairly sleepy.
October is here – HOORAY! I look forward to a whole lot of 40K this month, once we get past the Blood Bowl, & Warhammer Underworlds. Salamanders have been spoiled via leaks, but whispers say the Imperial fists book is very, very, very shooty and mean. I can’t wait. I”m still uncertain whether Phoenix Rising is next week, or early November, after Ossiarch Bonereapers – but GW marketing is talking about it a LOT these past 2 weeks.
Also, folks are kinda mixed on the new Space Marine figure. It’s certainly cool but you purchase it this weekend and it ships out in Q2 2020. The US price is unknown but the price was listed on a Japanese display as 11,000 Yen, which translates to just over $102.
I can’t wait to tear it apart as with Vigilus and END TIMES when GW does a multi-volume narrative series, they usually use the same layout and section formatting. Once we see the first volume, we will have a much better picture of just what GW has in store for 40K in the next few months.
The BoLS Open 2020 website is up and tickets are selling. Get your’s while the Earlybird Discounts are still in effect! So check it out and we hope to see you next year in person. It’s going to be a lot of fun! Back to marketing, writing and coming up with more Prime topics for me!

Hey All! It’s October which means I’m starting to get even more excited about the Ossiarch Bonereapers! I cannot WAIT to get my hands on this army!!! I’ve already got a paint scheme worked out and a plan of attack mapped out – not I just need to get my hands on those models and get to building/painting. Having recently finished my Nighthaunt army to a point where I can play 2k (or more), I think the Bonereapers are going to come at just the right time for me to start them up. I’m hoping we see them sooner (mid-month) vs later (end of the month). Bring on the BONEREAPERS!!!

Wendy’s released an RPG and I’m still kind of reeling from that news–you can read about it elsewhere on the site. I don’t think I’ll be taking up the Wendy’s sword any time soon, but I am working on an RPG at the moment. There’s another Short Games Digest coming out that features games with a family theme. I’m working on a game that’s all about discovering another world with your monster friend, and it feels pretty good.
On the RPG front, things are amping up for Eberron, which will be exciting when it comes out. I love the setting and am excited to see what happens with it when the full campaign guide is out. No doubt the DM’s Guild will have a ton of exciting options to play around with. Aside from that, the other big thing right now is the Untitled Goose Game, which is the best honking time I’ve had in a while.

I am working on my first long-form article for Prime right now – I’m taking a deep dive into the Satanic Panic starting in the late 1930s and working up to the 1980s when D&D was swept into the long building hysteria.
On to movies – Masara Nakamura and Takashi Miike’s First Love came out late last month. The story follows a young boxer and a prostitute that meet by happenstance, and the two get swept up in a drug smuggling scheme. What happens next is classic Miike – angry yakuza mobsters, car crashes, and crazy fights with even more unhinged characters all at a break-neck pace, and with a tale of romance and comedy at its core. He rolls in a ton of gangster movie tropes into the plot without it feeling distracting. Not many can pull this kind of project off. With First Love Miike shows he’s still at the top of his game after making 45+ genre-bending movies.
Amazon Prime has a bunch of his movies available right now – I suggest starting with The Happiness of the Katakuris if you haven’t seen any of his movies. If you want a deep cut that may give you nightmares, watch Gozu.

Hey guys! It’s been a busy week in my neck of the woods, I remain, as always, neck-deep in terrain projects. We’ve been pumping out buildings and hills a lot lately and now its time to turn my hand to some more… esoteric pieces. I’ve also got a bin full of Land Raiders and Valkyries and other fun stuff I need to take a hacksaw to. Who doesn’t love destruction?!?
40K wise I think both Iron Hands and Raven Guard are solid books. It really makes me feel like White Scars got the short end of the stick a bit. I’m pretty excited for the next two books, Imperial Fists, and Salamanders, so its just a waiting game till they come out. I remain curious about Psychic Awakening, but I am finding it a bit hard to get super excited with so little info yet. Next week look for some hobby stuff from me, and I’m working on getting some interviews lined up as well so that should be cool.

Currently knocking out a Chaos Space Marine Black Legion commission as well as getting starting doing Inktober stuff on my Instagram and Facebook. Working on an article idea that tries to emulate the single army choice extra set of rules for the Death Guard and what it could look like. Beyond that trying to figure out another Herohammer army list for bike crazy White Scars as well. Thankfully this last weekend I completed the new Cartoon strip as well as some commission artwork. It’s always busy for the Goatboy.
~We will catch you on the backside groups and don’t be a stranger, everybody!
