Games Workshop lays out the Psychic Awakening’s next combatants for Saga of the Beasts!

We finally can mark them off the list. We knew Orks were on the way and we had our suspicions but now it’s confirmed by Games Workshop. Saga of the Beast will be Orks vs Space Wolves.

The next book in the ongoing narrative, The Saga of the Beast, follows the rise of the Ork threat across the galaxy. With Imperial forces already stretched to the limit, the Space Wolves have taken an oath to slay the leader of this massive Waaagh! Of course, the Imperium has a pretty mixed history when it comes to taking out so-called beasts. Can the sons of Fenris manage to stop the green tide before it swallows the Imperium whole?

BOOM. Again, we had listed the Space Wolves as probable/likely opponents because of the title of the book. But it was somewhat odd that GW had confirmed the armies in Engine War before Saga of the Beast.

We didn’t even get a graphic like this for Saga of the Beast…

But now we can update our list with accuracy for who’s left!

Psychic Awakening Armies Remaining List

  • Phoenix Rising – Aledari and Drukhari
  • Faith & Fury – Sisters of Battle (according to the lore and website), Space Marines, and Chaos Marines
  • Blood of Baal – Blood Angels and Tyranids
  • Ritual of the Damned – Dark Angels, Thousand Sons, Grey Knights
  • The Greater Good – T’au, Genestealer Cult, Astra Militarum
  • Saga of the Beast – Orks, Space Wolves
  • Engine War – Adeptus Mechanicus, Imperial Knights, Chaos Knights, Chaos Daemons

The Remaining Challengers

  • Harlequins
  • Deathwatch
  • Adeptus Custodes
  • Death Guard
  • Necrons

There are only 5 armies left! Are we going to get 2 more books or just 1 more Psychic Awakening book? That could put the series at 8 or 9 total books!

Now, there is another caveat here: There could be another army in Saga of the Beast. For example, the Death Watch might want to get in on that Xenos hunting action. Plus, they kinda have a bone to pick with you know who:

We saw this happen with The Greater Good where the clues pointed to Genestealer Cults vs T’au and then the Astra Militarum showed up, too. So we might have another case of Space Wolves vs Orks with a surprise Mystery Guest on Team Imperium showing up. I wouldn’t put it past GW is all I’m saying…

Release Schedule?

Now, we’ve got both these announced books (Saga of the Beast and Engine War) to look forward to. And at the rate GW is doing these, we’re seeing one new book a month. If that pattern holds true, we’re looking at a release schedule like this:

  • March – Saga of the Beast
  • April – Engine War
  • May – Book 8
  • June – Book 9???

June is going to be here before you know it. What’s going to happen with Psychic Awakening?
