Geekery: ‘Extraction’ Has What Action Fans Have Been Craving

The latest action film from Netflix looks like a winner for fans of good fight choreography, large firearms, explosions, and high tension.

Chris Hemsworth plays a black-market mercenary that’s hired to rescue the son of an imprisoned international crime lord from kidnappers. The mission teeters on impossible in the murky underworld of weapon and drug traffickers as the city around them shuts down and the forces against them close in.

This is one of the projects tied the deal the Russo Brothers signed with Netflix (they’re also producing the animated MtG movie). The script is from Joe Russo and directed by Sam Hargrave – you may not recognize his name, but you’re familiar with his work. Hargrave has been a stuntman for over 15 years and was Chris Evans’ stunt double all the way through the Infinity Saga. He was also on the stunt choreography team for Atomic Blonde (if you haven’t seen it, you should).

One of the reasons why the John Wick franchise is so good is because of director Chad Stahelski’s history as a stunt performer and stunt coordinator. I’m hoping for tight action sequences and some high tension fistfights in Extraction, especially with Chris Hemsworth in the lead and a seasoned stuntman in the director’s chair.

Extraction drops on Netflix on April 24th.
