Goatboy here and I was lucky enough to get a hold of the new Ghazghul model before the GW lockdown. Let’s take a look at the big guy!

BoLS got a review set of the new box and my greedy little hands grabbed ahold of one of the Orks halves to throw some paint on.  I went ahead and built him for a quick paint on my Wednesday night stream – 8pm central Goatboy paints something on Twitch – and found him to be a pretty pleasant model to build and paint.  Let’s throw some pics and give a little bit of a review of each one.

First off the two sprues. This guy is big:

Goatboy’s Ghaz

I went ahead and painted him with Red skin and yellow armor to match my current Ork scheme.  I have painted a ton of green Orks, did a batch of albino Orks, and finally settled on just having my Orks be red.  The dingy yellow is a nice bit of contrast to the red skin as well as the flat denim like color for their paints.  I went with this method as it is easy to reproduce and my parent addled brain means I won’t forget the color scheme as I do it.

Here he is asking his buddy if he remembered to turn off the stove in the giant space rock they came in on.  We’ll break this down into Build and a Paint review to make it simple.  I kinda went crazy with the sponge work but he overall looks pretty mean and dingy.

Build Thoughts

As with all new character models from GW this was a pretty easy build.  There are a few weird things that are odd as I think some of the parts could have been easier with pegs or something else to guide the piece in.  It is interesting in how they are starting to show kinda of how the model layers up as the armor plates and other parts kind of stack on top of the model.  The only odd build part I found was one of the arms kinda went in weird.  I noticed it as I finished building and had to unseat and refit it in.  With all the plates, weapons, and cords it was a bit of a pain.  His little buddy went together real easy so that is a plus.  His base let you build him in two different ways so that is nice.  You got an extra head to throw on there but there is nothing super different from others for the face.  Still it is neat to have different options.

Here are some pics with another model to see how big he is.

Paint Thoughts

Overall he isn’t bad to paint – there are not a ton of hidden things beyond just reading his skin.  I was going with a red skin so I need to find all the parts to get it.  It felt like a crazy game of Operation to get a hold and not leave a bit of red on the armor somewhere.  Not that someone would see it – but I would know it is there.  The armor has a lot of different textures to try out and paint different types of metal.  I didn’t go crazy with it but you could easily break it all apart with different metallics.  I love the haphazard nature of the design so it makes painting fun.

Overall I liked the model.  I think his rule are interesting and we will see if he is usable.  There are going to be games where his locked in 4 wounds a phase will be a pain in the butt.  I think I will continue on with some Orks and look at some fun bubbie builds as the Kustom Buggy jobs seem neat.

Here is his Ghaz butt.  You can’t see any skin which is kind of a shame as it would help break the model down a bit more.

But still – his butt. What do you think? WAAAGH!
