Epic is a goldmine of great ideas from the history of the Grimdark – here are some miniatures we’d love to see return to the 40k Tabletop.

Epic 40,000 was the 3rd edition of Epic and it was released in 1997. At 6mm, it was a much smaller scale compared to 40k but the battles represented much larger conflicts. Massive troop movements combined with gigantic warmachines fought on the tabletop and it was a true spectacle to behold. Epic had it’s own miniature range and GW has even brought back or redesigned tons of miniatures from Epic to the 40k scale. But there are more than a handful we’d love to see make a comeback.

Land Train

Land Trains are war machines composed of an engine and several weapons-mounted cars. They were maintained and crewed by the Squat‘s Engineers Guild, a group which provided the best weapons used in the Squat armies.

It would have been a short list if we just said “Squats – all of them” so we picked out favorite of the bunch. The Land Train is one of those models that’s just ridiculous enough to work. It’s a series of cars attached to the engine and they all have guns. It’s not really a train so much as a 18-wheeler pulling multiple cargo cars. You just replace the wheels with tracks and cargo with guns. All the guns. In anycase, it needs to make a comeback.

Nurgle Plague Tower

Nurgle Plague Tower is a very powerful Daemon Engine dedicated to Nurgle.

The Tower is unbelievably resilient, able to withstand the punishment that would fell any Imperial tank. It also shelters a host of Nurgle’s twisted followers in its innards, allowing them to fire at their weakening enemies from the safety of this construct.

This one has been often recreated by hobbyists and there are tons of really cool conversions. That said, we’d love to see what GW could do to tweak this one with modern technology.

Dominatrix

The Dominatrix is a Tyranid species which exerts a controlling psychic aura to bring lesser Tyranid creatures under its will, allowing the swarm under its command to operate with uncanny efficiency and tactical ability. However, a Dominatrix is extremely rare and only seen in the most advanced Tyranid swarms.

We’ve been harping on this one for years. Tyranids need a Lord of War in plastic and the Dominatrix could be that model. It would be cool to see it return to the tabletop with a redesign in plastic. Shoot – we’d settle for the old design in plastic!

Fulgrim / Angron

It’s a twofer one! Hey, we already have the other two daemon princes why not these two classics? Fulgrim and Angron are poking around behind the scenes in 40k currently – let’s just make them official!

Capitol Imperialis

Capitol Imperialis is a tracked Super Heavy Tank often used as a mobile command base for Imperial Guard Regiments. Though heavily armoured and protected by Void Shields, its sheer size and slow speeds limits the vehicle to defensive operations.

Our final entry strikes close to home because back in the day, we had a local player build one. Some of the old timers might remember this:

Yeah. That’s not Epic Scale. That’s 40k and it was a glorious day…

What about the Titans like the Imperator or Mega Gargants?!” Of COURSE we’d love to see those – but those are obvious choices. Let us know what OTHER miniatures you’d love to see return to the tabletop in 40k’s scale from Epic!
